These Fu** are insane. Instead of making these palaces as a Museum or something, they want to use these as their luxury means so that they can sit on their FAT ass enjoy every bit of it. Way to go for so called New Nepal………..

Narayanhiti may one day become a ‘presidential palace’

In an interesting revelation, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prithvi Subba Gurung has said the government is mulling to turn the Naryanhiti royal palace into a ‘presidential palace’.

Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Reporters Club in the capital Tuesday, minister Gurung said the government was mulling over whether to use the Naranhiti palace, where King Gyanendra lives currently, as the office of the future head of the state or the Prime Minister. He said the constituent assembly would take a final decision on this.

Gurung further said that most of the palaces and lands owned by late King Birendra and the property owned by Gyanendra as the King have been brought under the government ownership.

According to the minister, 43825 ropanies of jungle area and more than 1900 ropanies of land have already been nationalised and that the ownership certificates of these estates and the Nayanhiti palace have been issued in government’s name.

The nationalisation drive will be completed when the upcoming cabinet meeting approves the decisions of the five-member ministerial committee formed to nationalise the royal property.

The ministerial committee has not however found any bank account of King Gyanendra in Nepal, Gurung, himself a member of the committee, informed.

The government had directed the Nepal Rastra Bank to provide details of the bank accounts, if any, of King Gyanendra. Minister Gurung said the committee has found accounts of late Queen Aishworya, late Crown Prince Dipendra and late Prince Nirajan in the Standard Chartered Bank and that the money is found to have been transferred to other bank accounts abroad.

The ministerial panel headed by Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, which has been given 15 days to complete its task, has already decided to nationalise at least 12 palaces, jungles and land owned by the King.

King Gyanendra is currently ‘vacationing’ at the Nagarjun palace, northwestern suburb of Kathmandu, which has also come under government ownership now

NARAYANHITI SHOULD BE PUBLIC! It's one of the last remaining green spaces in Kathmandu.

It is public, initally it was privet property of king, late king Mahendra sold it to Nepal government and deposited the monies at Swiss bank. It was not and is not king's privet property. It belongs to us.

DO NOT LET THOSE CORRUPT MOTHAFUGGERS TOUCH ANY PALACE.
NOW THOSE PALACES BELONG TO NEPALI PEOPLE NOT GHUSHYAAA CORRUPT POLITICIANS. THEY SHOULD BE TURNED INTO NEPALI MUSEUMS FOR ALL NEPALI TO SEE. NOT A LUXURY PALACE FOR THOSE USELESS POLITICIANS. DO NOTNTHEM THEM DESTROY THEM LIKE THEY DESTROYED THE COUNTRY.

i think more than history and legacy of narayanhity, they want to make it a presidential palace because for the simple reason that it's close to TEACHING HOSPITAL and fairly close to bir hospital as well...hahahahaha....anything can happen anytime ni hoina?...especially if Prachanda sir becomes the president...

i say:
forget teaching or bir..how about somewhere in lalitpur close to patan hospital? mental hospital is also there.so...it will do both ways ..hahaha :D)

Gyane and his family should buy a nice island, hire some beautiful girls to work there and life happily for the rest of their lives instead of dealing with everyday kyau kyau in Nepal. Nice sunny beach everyday sounds very appealing.

okay jokes apart, let me say what i actually feel about this:

don't really wanna exasperate anyone, but i don't see anything wrong in making narayanhity president's house or something of such sort. i am all up for preserving greeneries and space in KTM so if they leave the space in and around the palace as it is, convert some of the aesthetically pleasing sites and assets of historical importance into museums in part or in whole and build a presidential house somewhere as a part of the whole property, i am fine with that.

while i do understand the acerbic criticisms on the issue and frustration in our part against the corrupt politicians and sly maoists, i do also understand that 'president' is someone who will be elected by 'Nepali' people and hence is a 'representation' of a democratic Nepal in itself. narayanhity will be of nepal and nepalese.

on a more serious note:
how many of you would still condemn this proposal if YOU were to become the president ?

President Prachanda elected by force will reside in Narayanhity .... poor Girija, his hopes of moving to Narayanhity will die with him.

Soon civil war will be the answer to everything.

This news suck.
It clearly reveals that politicians are thinking only about their nice and cosy future and they care least for the people. We haven't drilled for democracy to give birth to another tyrant! People want freedom from everyone including Girija and Prachanda. And if they fail to address people's agendas, they will face the consequences as Gyanendra is facing in the present contest .
The palace withholds the history of our nation so it should be declared museum.

if you do a direct presidential election, nanimaiya/golchhe sarki or govinda/jogmeher (with most money) could be the president. If you do it thru parliament khum bahadur/sujata could be the president. Look at indian election, it was so dirty and finally a corrupt/criminal leader won. Furthermore we have to rewrite the whole culture like New Testament of Bible. When Gririja observed the Bhote Jatra many people were not happy. The only thing left for maoist is to insert its forces in the military which is most possible thru presidency because he/she would be the commander-in-chief.After that say bye bye to democracy. It took only 19 lives to bring democracy, in maoist rule consider that atleast 2,3 lakh.Forget about Gyane, it's the Paras that most people's have in mind so rajtantra is doomed in nepal case. The only way seems military rule that is responsible to the parliament, for a while, as one german professor suggested. Looking at what Singapore has become, it's not that bad idea. No president or narayanhiti for anybody Those who disagree with me, I wanna dedicate this song .

whatever you people think about me i don't care. I consider myself as a commoner a concerned true nepali citizen.{I love my Country my soil. i hate to see it being ruined by these bunch of nonsense craps.
Guys I'm into it now!!

sometimes it's quite overwhelming to see the amount of frustration that has built up in our (nepalese) parts. at times, i personally feel incapacitated to see our state of utter denial and discomposure about the ongoing political development of the country.

i have always believed that we, the people, are the primary assets of democracy. the lincoln's quote: 'to the people, by the people, for the people' addresses this very aspect of people's responsibility and its cause and effect within democracy. i am sorry to say but we, nepalese, have never understood the 'by the people' part very clearly. Lincoln warned the south america in his inaugural address by saying: "in your hands, my 'dissatisfied' fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war."

we loveeee to complain, love to play the blame game, don't we? we never introspect. why do we always blame the leaders? who are they after all? ONE among US. the power of building a good, efficient and self-reliant government is in our hands --the people's hands. democracy takes time to flourish, it takes decades. unfortunately in our case, we never had a firm platform from where we could build on. but as much as the leaders (corrupt or otherwise) are responsible for this tumult, the general people (we) are also liable because we are the biggest part of that system.

how many of us have bribed the leaders/bureaucrats to get our work done? how many of us revolted? corruption is not possible one way. both the parties (senders and receivers) are equal parts of the game.

the point i am trying to emphasize here is: let's not shy away from our responsibilities. if the country is burning, we are adding more fuel into it by blaming each other. let's try to solve ...not run away. at least think positively. we may not be there physically or may not participate actively in the political front, but at least we can create a conducive environment by supporting a good cause. can't we?

as i already mentioned, i don't see anything wrong in making narayanhity --the presidential house. let's make sure, we elect the right person who deserves to be in there. it's we who have to make sure we don't create another girija or madhav or khum bdr or govinda raj or prachanda or gyanendra for that matter.

no offense or malice intended to anyone. i had sworn not to speak on politics in sajha anymore, but some of the responses in this thread alone unrested my cause. sorry about that.
