We were walking towards new road gate or to be precise towards RNAC tempo stand. Small talks on the way made you love even more. You insisted on going home, but I wanted you to spend some more time with me. I didn’t care if we were being watched. I wanted you to be near me for a little moment. What made you react in a spur of a moment, only you would have known, but you surprised me when you got on the waiting tempoo. I waited there hoping you would come out and at least stay with me for five minutes until next tempoo enroute would leave. I didn’t expect you to jump out hug me/ kiss me but I expected you to step out and stand with me for some time – a little moment for me to cherish. That would have meant a world to me, a proof that I can trust you to be trusted in return. I stood still and watched you disappear as the tempoo started moving. I know I didn’t shout nor cry, but I can feel the expressions creeping on my face, they certainly were not of joy. I walked up the stairs of the overhead crossing and followed until the tempoo was visible to my naked eyes. How I wished, you would come out at various stops. I traced the moving tempoo pass mahankalsthan / birhospital then ratnapark. After that the tempoo dissolved in the mess of traffic from ratnapark to Jamal, leaving me bewildered and thinking.( I would have waited a longer had I known that you would come back - be it eternity.) My soul cried, it was so painful, I could hear it reverberate in my brains. Why did I love you so much, only to hurt myself. Never has it occurred to me once, that people can be so emotionally attached to the person who does not show the signs of emotion in return. I became a living proof as I watch it happen.
Shagged and tired I moved down the stairs and headed towards pipal bot where I had my bike parked.

It has been 5 years since this happened. You have moved on so did I. These little details still remind me of you and “salt water wails in my eyes”. Although it’s painful, I greet with open arms to re- live these moments in my dreams. I wish you all the best.

Am I invited to your birthday treat, I ask. After a small pause, I hear you say, you have invited couple of your best friends and your sister over to Nanglo’s at Basantpur. Those words of yours gave no hint. I kept pressing with the same question over and again. Am I invited? After another pause, I could hear your faint voice saying yes, you are invited meet you at 5. We had a brief conversation that ended with good-bye for the day. I did not know why but I hold on to the phone and kept smiling, thinking of the day I would celebrate your birthday with you. How wonderful, how special that made me, only I knew.
Even before your invitation, I had a birthday gift ready for you. Boys do not spend lot of time in the gift shop. I was accompanied by a friend who would help me select the best gift- the first gift, which would explain myself better. I bought two gifts having difficulty deciding one. My friend has a shop in new road, if I was not invited I would have asked you to visit his store - that was the plan.
I was the last to arrive. As my friend was sick I had to drop by his house at lazimpath, to collect the gifts that he guarded with his life. Upon arrival I noticed you started ordering momo’s and fries. By the time, I made it to the table came the eye turner -the sizzler, your sister’s order. Trying to debate myself whether or not to hand the presents over right then, I hold onto it for a little longer. As we rise to leave, I hold the present for you to accept. You were overjoyed, politely you say “thank you.” I could read your sisters mind by the way she was gazing at the gift. She wanted to tear open, see what’s inside but you hold onto it and insist you would rather open it alone. I looked at you, you looked at me our eyes transfixed, and we both smile.
Wishing you all the best, and Happy Birthday.

“I live for, the little moments, like this”
