I am forced to write against Nepalese government and Maoist again. As we all know, Birendra was kidnapped by Maoist Cadres one month ago and shot to death same day.Press reporter Birendra Shah has been the latest victim of Maoist and his family has been the latest victim of Nepalese governement. Nepalese goverment has once again failed to assure Nepalese people that their life is safe and they will take necessary steps to punish those people who tries to disrupt society.

Maoist Role on the killing of Birendra Shah:

Birendra Shah was kidnapped and killed same day by Maoist cadres just because he was covering news that was not favorable to Maoist. Maoist leaders such as Prachanda and Baburam knew what happened to Birendra Shah and his where abouts, but for one month they pretended that they knothing about him. While meeting with Birendra's inncoent wife, Prachanda with confidence told her that his party do not know his where abouts and is not involved in his kidnapping. At that time, he knew that he was lying. Finally with national and international pressure, Maoist did their "so called internal investigation" about Birendra Shah and concluded that he was kidnapped by their part memebers and shot to death. He was shot in his head and chest.

Government Role on the killing of Birendra Shah:

Nepalese government leaded by Nepali Congress and Girija Prasad Koirala has once again failed to assure Nepalese public that their life are safe and they are in charge of the country not the Maoist, kidnapers and murderers. Prime minister and Home minister received the internal and confidential report about Birendra Shah's where abouts and the people involved in kidnapping him and killing him.  They failed to take strong decision to arrest those Maoist Cadres. If they wanted, Police and Nepalese governemnt could have arrested those criminals  before its too late and bring them to the court. May be they were scared of Prachanda or they themselfelf didnt feel secured to file charges against Maoist, Nepalse goverment acted like they didnt knew nothing. They let those criminals go free.

If Nepalese governemnt had taken strong actions against these kind of crimes and criminals in the past, people would be discouraged and would be be scared of going to jail. But when these kinds of incidence occured before, as usual Nepalese government stayed quite indirectly encouraging those Maoist Cadres and other criminals. Have it been the same case in Europe and America, president himself would come to Nationally televised press confrence and assured their people that necessary steps will be taken and criminals will be punished. But in Nepal, Nepalese government has not even send their condolence to Birendra's family.

"Even when Maoist has already published the name of those criminals who were involved in kidnapping and killing of Birendra Shah, Nepalese government has not issued arrest warrant on those criminials nor they tried to assure Birendra's family and Nepalse public that legal action will be taken to those people. WHAT A SHAME!!!!WHAT A WEAK LEADERSHIP!!!! I feel shame to tell other people that criminals and kidnappers roam freely in my country and they are under the protection of corrupt leaders (even prime minster) instead of being in jail.

My Conclusion:

Of coarse Maoist leaders and their cardes are responsible of this incident but I also think Nepalese government is more than 75% reposible for this incidence then the Moist themseves. If Nepalese officials had taken strong actions in past on similar cases, today those maoist cadres would not be encouraged to be criminals. They would be scared of the law and would behave accordingly. Since governemnt could not punish them in the past ( most of the times governemnt didnt even try), Maoist cadres are getting enouraged to kidnap, kill, rape and spread voilence in Nepalese society.

Nepalese government still has time to take necssary actions and send message to criminals that they cant roam freely. But from the past experience, I dont think Nepalse goverment will do any shit which will encourage those bad people to kill, kidnap and rape again and again and again and again and again and again..........

"May Birendra's Shah's soul rest in peace".And I hope  this incident would be a lesson for Nepalese governemnt and Maoist.

I feel bad for a precious life lost and bereived family.

Now the agitation is going on, the govt. and probably maoist will come up with a bandage of compensation for the bleeding souls.

Let us condemn the autocratic behavior of Maoist. As well lets condemn the weakness and ineffectiveness of Nepalese government.

All the killings should be stopped immdiately. There should not be any things that would be used against humanity.

I hope Nepalese people dont have to suffer anymore.

May all those innocent souls rest in peace.

Very few people are coming forward against the atrocity.

Usually the mouth pieces of political organizations are quick to make "press releases", I have not seen that too. May be they are ashamed of their own Government.

Let's raise some amount for the education of his children. I feel so sad when I remember his wife and kids. We must shame the Maoists cowards who killed him in jungle. The man had nothing but pen. The cowards had guns, manpower and everything. They apparently cut the fingers and I don't know whatelse, and dumped his body.

Let us raise something, whatever we can, and try to help from our own way to the bereaved family. May god bless Birendra Sah.

Journalists across the country stage protest against Shah's murder

Enraged over the killing of journalist Birendra Shah by Maoist cadres in Bara district, journalists across the country organised protests on Tuesday.

Hundreds of journalists joined in a rally organised by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) in Katmandu to protest the killing of journalist Shah in captivity. The protesting journalists also chanted slogans against frequent attacks on journalists by the Maoists.

Addressing a gathering after the rally, representatives of various media groups demanded immediate action against the murderers, proper compensation to Shah’s family and public apology from the Maoist leadership for the act of their cadres.

Press Chautari Nepal and Press Union jointly enforced a daylong bandh (shutdown strike) in Nuwakot district to protest the killing of Shah. Marketplace and transport services remained closed in district headquarters Bidur due to the journalists' protest. There were reports of similar protests in several places around the country.

On Tuesday morning, all independent FM radios observed two minutes of mourning at 7 am in the morning, as their show of solidarity and protest.

The report of Shah's murder was established after a probe panel formed by the Maoists stated, on Monday, that he was killed the same day he was abducted on October 5.

"A committed journalist who was working for justice has been killed. Had the Maoists and the government taken the news of his abduction seriously immediately after we broadcast the news, Shah might not have been killed," said Bishnu Hari Dhakal, managing director of Nepal FM.

Shah was a Bara-based correspondent for Nepal FM as well as Avenues television. The Avenues Television has announced that it has set up Birendra Shah Television Journalism Award in his memory. The Television has also decided to provide Rs 100,000 as relief compensation to Shah's family.

Meanwhile, Broadcasting Association of Nepal (BAN), Karnali Press Association (KPA), Nepal FM 91.8, Mechi Makali Media Society, Press Chautari Nepal, Nepal Press Union, Reporters' Club and many other media organisations have condemned the murder of journalist Shah.

Various media organisations have demonstrated against the Maoists across the country. Transportation in Bara and Lahan have been obstructed due to the demonstration by the journalists demanding stern action against the culprits, apology from the Maoists with assurances that such incidents will not occur in the future and compensation to the bereaved family. nepalnews.com sd/ia Nov 06 07
