Dear all,

I am M.Sc. in Powers System Engineering and B. E. in Electrical Engineering.

I am thinking of joining US University by August 2008, M.E or Ph.D.

I have 90% and 76.1% Marks in M.Sc. in B.E respectively.

I am now residing in Nepal.

I am going to attend TOEFL and GRE.

Which are the Top Five Electrical Engineering Universities in US which have most number of Nepalese students?

How much cost is born by scholarship?

Is scholarship that easy?

I have heard that after six months, we can maintain our study cost evenif we do not get any scholarship.

Please suggest me .

Thank you in advance.

Do a little bit of research and unwrap your literary work to the Professors who might be willing to fund you for your education here.

I  assume if you don't get financial assistance on your PhD , you'd have harsh time completing your dissertation.

Get that TOP 5 "bhoot" out of your head, and apply to the university that can promise you something atleast. Other than that, its upto you to come up with your idea on your dissertation to really make a difference.

Good Luck.

I don;t think top 5 Universities have lots of Nepalis ( if not any).
w/o scholarship i dont think its possible to study Graduate/ post graduate... yearly cost can run from 35-50,000

who ever said this ask him how?

Besides, you have to do research on your, contact which ever univ you want join, ask them what kind of program they have.

Well, tentatively the top schools are : MIT, Harvard, Caltech, Stanford, Princeton, UCLA etc.

Good luck getting into those schools.

For maintaining cost (and student status while doing your Ph D) in those schools by working in gas stations is a nice joke to tell everyone...

But the good thing is if you get admission in any graduate engineering or natural science programs, they will support you through your tuition and few stipend (enough for survival).

By the way, the percentages you quoted in your Masters/Bachelors donot mean much here.

Don't want to repeat other things again,
Do research a lot and try to find professor/faculty- who is doing things  related to your field/choice, more importantly someone who will fund your education here by any kind of assistantship.
and do good on standard tests also
Good Luck

Consider Virginia Tech. Georgia Tech, UCLA, CalTech, NorthWestern, ...

UC Berkley, ...MIT, Princeton, .... if you get admission there, your future is secured.

Any State University would be fine if your goal is to work in US industry. Majority of Professors in USA, under whom you would like to have PhD work, will support graduate student's tuition fees and bottomline living expenses  so that the student is productive. If the Professor can not support your tuition fees, then that Professor is not worth for being your advisor. That is it, so simple. Well, if your goal is to land here, you can go elsehwere where don't need GRE as well.

Note that there are some professors who ask you to work in his project, and your PhD research work might be your out of such daily paid work, and you might get upset / crazy / frustrated / and give up at the end of the day. Such professors might count your minutes by minutes: Usually, they want you to work 2 to 3 times of the time you are actually paid. They assume that you are 30-50% efficient. I remember one professor saying, "there are many poor students in Asia who wants to work free of charge, just offer them a space." Such mentality exists amongh professors in majority of state universities. So, be prepared for such nightmare.

Good Luck.
