Unity with ex-royalists essential for new Nepal: Dr Bhattarai

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Dec 8 - Maoist second-in-command Dr Baburam Bhattarai has claimed that a new Nepal cannot be materialised with the unity between the Maoists and erstwhile parliamentary democratic forces and royalist forces.

Interacting with intellectuals in the capital Saturday, Dr Bhattarai said that a “new national unity is needed among yesterday’s parliamentary democratic forces, yesterday’s royalist forces and the revolutionary forces for forward-looking restructuring of the society and socioeconomic transformation of the country. A new Nepal can be materialised only with the unity among these three forces”

He also said that Maoist supremo Prachanda had sought an alliance with the nationalists to ensure that the royalists do not derail the ongoing peace process.

Prachanda’s statement was aimed at ensuring that “they (the erstwhile royalists) would not feel intimidated and that they would not cause hassles as they, too, would have a space in new Nepal,” he said.

The Maoist ideologue also clarified that the Maoists were currently seeking an end to feudalism and transformation of capitalism in the country.

RJP finds Prachanda’s ‘nationalist alliance’ remark positive

The Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) has considered positively the recent remark made by Maoist chairman Prachanda regarding forging alliance with nationalists.

Talking to reporters after the national gathering of the party leaders and workers in Kathmandu, Friday, RJP vice chairman Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani praised Prachanda’s remarks.

“Whoever talks about protecting nationalism and independence should be welcomed by one and all,” Dr. Lohani said.

A few days ago, Prachanda had said that since there were people close to the King who love the country very much, they should build alliance with such nationalist elements. nepalnews.com sd Dec 08 07

No use of election where Maoists will lose, says Dr. Bhattarai

A senior Maoist leader has said that there is no use of holding election, which the Maoists will lose.

"What kind of election will that be where the Maoists who have established progressive political demands will lose?" asked Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, the Maoist number two.

Dr. Bhattarai stated that since all of his party's political demands have been established, the Maoists must win the election to implement them, reported Kantipur FM.

Speaking at an interaction in the capital, Saturday, he said that the election, which the Maoists lose, will be nothing but 'a drama quite like the one staged by King Gyanendra.'

He claimed that all the progressive political demands like Constituent Assembly, proportional representation, Dalit Janajati rights etc were established by his party.

Dr. Bhattarai also defended his party chairman Prachanda's recent controversial remark on forging alliance with nationalists close to the King.

"Our chairman had said that since the republic is coming, it would be necessary to bring on board the nationalist forces close to the King so that they will not create commotion after republic is established," he said.

"For national unity, yesterday's parliamentary forces, monarchists and revolutionaries all should come together. Only then can a new Nepal be realised," Dr. Bhattarai asserted. nepalnews.com sd Dec 08 07
