Hey frens,

I am in H4 visa right now and going to school from Jan 2008. If I stay in this visa then only the advantage i get is in state tution fee fascility.. , cannot work anywhere nor get  OPT on graduation.

If I change it to F1 visa, I may end up loosing instate tution fee, may or may not get work in school but will get OPT on graduation.

What do you guys suggest me ?? and when is it better for me to change into F1 visa . Please help me the way out ?? and Anyone been in the same siuation ????

Being on H4,  you can't apply for jobs directly, however if you choose to go through consultancies and let them know in advance that you'll be joining them after graduation, they'll easily convert your H4 to H1. Why not to take the reduced tution benefit? However, if you decide to apply for jobs directly then it's better to change status to F1. Take others opinion too. I knew a few people who did so, thus only mentioning.

i second kancha.
khas ma OPT is not really a big issue.
My OPT is going to start soon, and im still struggling to get a job. most of the employers replied me as they do not sponsor for h1b and that i wont be eligible to work after my OPT expired.
If i were on your shoes, i would happily pay the instate fee and later on try to convert into h1b.
we definitely have to think about our future, but we live in PRESENT. so focus on today..
