So are you a graduate student? Although the rules vary for the CPA from state to state, most of the states are moving towards the 150 hrs and 27 hrs in accounting meaning you will have to have 150 credit hours completed and 27 of those hours should be accounting hours. Some states however allow you to sit for exam as soon as you finish your undergraduate with 27 accounting hours provided that you are persuing your 150. You don't have to join any institution to study for the CPA exam. Most of it is self study. There are also some support material that are available like Glime and becker. Glime is comparatively much cheaper and I think can be bought for ~$500 but becker is much more expensive and can cost more than $2000 but is more well accepted. This is all I can think of right now.. Let me know if you have some other specific questions..

Tisa thanks so much for the wounderful site. That was a great one.

I am planing  to pass CPA from CA as I am doing my grad here. About the accounting course requirement, I had sent for the evaluation of my undergraduate degree but I was in short of 12 more accounting courses, so best option for me was to join grad school. So I am there right now.

I am ready to spend few more bucks if its worth . 0_0 you seem to have a good knowledge already ... So where do you think and how do you think I should start from. Jut get some books and start to study or still wait for some more time till I complete my credit reqirement to sit for the exam ??

Thanks in advance

Sampu

Sampada,

As someone already mentioned, the requiremetns varies from state to state. If you want to take your CPA from Delaware, you don't even need a bachlor's degree, all u need is assocaite degree( two years of study) plus the course in Taxation, which you can take from any online college. They won't even require two years of work experience to get certified like most other states do. Since you are already doing ur mastes, take the test and get the license from delaware. After that you can go to any other state and just satisfy the state's education, then u won't have to take the test again,  works just like driver license. You won't have to go to delaware to give the test, you can take the test from anywhere within the USA.

Regarding prep class for CPA, I will recommend becker . I know it is little expensive around $2000 , but it is definetly worth it. By the way I'm doing the same and passed two parts so far. In my case, my company paid for it.You can even opt for CD version if u can't take the live course.

For more details, go to beckercpa.com , then choose the state where u want to take the test, then everything should be self explainatory ..good luck...

I hear somebody talking about CPA, ounce of memory is better than tons of logic. Your dedication and ability to solve the puzzle will lead to success. I mean you will find (a) will be the answer if choice (c) was different answer, but in this case c is the answer.  This is how the tests are set up. That's why the guys were talking about ounce of memory vs. tons of logic. Timing is important especially in accounting and tax+managrial accounting exams.

Before paying to Baker review course (little expensive) you can buy used books on line or try Craigslist.org.

You can do it if you are a dedicated person.

Even if u take a becker course, u still needs to be a dedicated person to pass the cpa exam.

Let me remind you something , used books probably not gonna work cauz --- the freqency of changes in accounting and tax laws....

u need both ounce of memory & tons of logic to pass the cpa test..its not one vs another , it's  combined effort...if u don't beleive, take the test for ur self fullfilment..

When I'm working my ass off for 10 hrs a day, I'd would not go  searching for an old book in craigslist....time is money..not otherwise...I think i'll stick to "Little expensive" well designed course than my old crapy notes and outdated  books..

just my personal opinion..from my personal experience...
