Happy New Year Sajhites!

During my last trip to Kathmandu, a group of caring friends had made a substantial contribution of (Malaysian Ringgit 4,800.00) and we had purchased various items including 115 foldable white canes that was distributed to the visually impaired people who are poor and living in the remote areas of Nepal. This welfare activity was carried out through the Nepali Integrated Blind Development Association (NIBDA). I have been keeping close contacts with the Board members and staff of NIBDA.

NIBDA's latest project is the construction and setting up of a National Technical School for the Blind. The other important welfare program that NIBDA had initiated since 2004 is the Student's Scholarship Fund. The allocated grant is Npr 7,000 for tuition fees, medical, food, accommodation. Currently, there are 20 students between Grade 1-5 having this scholarship. Amongst these students, an outstanding pair are Sushil and Sujan who scored top marks amongst 500 able students.

The challenge faced by NIBDA is to continue with this scholarship program when all their existing funds and other contributory funds are being channelled into the setting up of the Technical School.

In view of this impending shortage of funds, I'm seeking help from all Nepalis to help NIBDA by supporting the scholarship fund program.

How can you help?

1. Each of you can make a monthly contribution on a yearly basis. Contributions can be paid into NIBDA's bank account for this Fund.

2. Each of you can approach your institution or corporations to participate in this Community Service as part of their charity programs.

On my part, I'm working out the same in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For further details, please contact me at p2ladhar@yahoo.com.

Please note that time is running short for these 20 visually impaired children. If we don't help them now, their future may be dissolved due to lack of funds. If we don't help our children, WHO WILL?

Looking forward to your positive responses.

Dhanyabad.

If we don't help each other, who will?

The center of human nature is rooted in ten thousand ordinary acts of kindness that define our days.

Without the human community one single human being cannot survive.

So long as little children are allowed to suffer, there is no true love in this world.

Often with the poorest people you cannot completely alleviate their problem but by being with them, whatever you can do for them makes a difference.

WHEN A BLIND MAN CARRIES A LAME MAN, BOTH GO FORWARD.

Then, how come not a single Nepali responded to this posting?

Hey Heartbeat, you deserve a pat on the back for the job well done. I, like many sajha members, am proud of your work. What about setting up a paypal account so that we could make donation online ? I can't promise you much but I don't mind doing my part by giving a small sum for a good cause.

Regards,
Rai

Dear Rai, thank you for your positive response and your suggestion.

I'll check with NIBDA on the procedures of how intended contributors living overseas can play their part for the benefit of these blind children. If you can send me your email, then I'll forward the pictures of the poor blind children who are currently being sponsored by NIBDA.

Regards.

Pavani
