Man I feel your pain, I went through a similar situation while doing my undergrad. Did you not apply for a graduate assistantship?

Phatte, make sure you get a group of 40-50 year olds and form a lottery pool or something chipping in $5 everytime a powerball/mega-millions numbers come out.  Why?  Coz everytime I see the lottery winners on TV, they're all friggin old...Their kids on the sidelines are the ones that look happier!!

Why do you have to pay your tuition if you have an assistantship? I thought tuition was waived as a part of the deal.

i like this saying " doing the same thing again and expecting different results ', i see lot neps going to gradschool not sure why they are going.
if you r not sure don't go, unless u have specific plans...just go out of status , and start thinking like immigrants and not students and u will find out so much opportunities in this country  and most likely you will have ur g.c  faster then your h1 buddies ..so go for it fellas.. .just think about the cost of not doing it.

Duke 1, you are god damn right... 9 years ago i came into this country. my first summer, i came down in Colorado to find a temp jobs and returned back to resume my studies. That year there were some illegal Nepalis , fresh out of the plane living in fear. 9 years after they allhave green cards, houses, secure jobs, and dignity. and i have nothing..so being out of status is not the end of the world... they were all out of status to begin with and got their green card somehow...
but stick with school, my undergrad gpa was crap.. and i couldn't even dare to ask for any assistanceship.. yes, 2.7 in 5 years of undfergrad was not glorious.. i wish i had never gone to school and just statred working , i could have made a lot of money to start someone out on my own by now...

Casino..... I hope things work out for you man! that would really suck , if you had to be out of status, because you cant pay the bills. This is probably not the right time to be "illegal"...with all thats going on. if i am not wrong,  red-necks in arizona , okhlahoma are already going nuts about "illegals" with new laws and all that.......

Thanks everyone else for the kind words.....I emailed my professors and got a positve response from 2 out of 3. they will let me register even though the class is already closed. PHEW! ....... oh well...... all is well that ends well bhanchan ke re......

Justhuman, which subject are you studying ? A lot of the majors get assistantship good enough to survive.

I think going out of status is NOT a good move. At the same time, trying to execute a plan while full-time in school is both financially and time-wise challenging.

Some people try finding a H1 sponsoring entity or marrying a citizen. I would not recommend or object the latter move. It should solely be in your discretion.

Good luck.

Just keep plugging, brother.  You reminded me of my old days.  Once I had $8 in my pocket, negative in bank, credit cards all maxed out and a month to go before I would get paid.  Mooskil le puryaaye.  Not to sound too much like pilgrims, but I genuinely believe when God gives challenges, God gives ways to succeed too.  So, keep persevering.  Your day will come.

Reminds me of my sucky college day, worked two jobs, survived on  freakin ramen noodles most of the days. Had the worst feeling to take a desparate measure to ask relatives, family, frens to borrow some money just to pay tuition, rent and other expenses in time. But the struggle pays off later. Im still not the happiest person but at least the financial stress is off my shoulders( for now).
