dunno if this is true or not but thought i'd share..

..................................................................................................
New Delhi:
Nepal's Prime Minister G P Koirala has come up with some startling confessions.

In an interview to Kantipur TV recently, Koirala revealed he was involved in manufacturing fake Indian currency.

Koirala confessed he made fake currency notes during political exile in India in the early 1970s.

The 82-year-old, who's been Nepal PM four times, was talking about his past political life. He said he had hired experts to produce the notes, and even deposited them in a bank.

Koirala also claimed that along with a team of Nepali Congress leaders, he hijacked a Nepal Airlines flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu in 1973. He said that all this happened with the knowledge and consent of B P Koirala, Nepal's legendary socialist leader and the country's first elected prime minister.

Allegedly, R N Rao, the then chief of India's external intelligence agency RAW, helped him in the hijacking.

Koirala had the fake currency produced at the residence of former Rajya Sabha member Dr Devendra Prasad Singh in Patna. Singh, a leader of the Praja Socialist Party, died in 2002

Koirala’s nephew and fellow MP with the Nepal Congress defended his uncle and said that these confessions must be seen in the context of the revolution of 1970 when the Nepal Congress was in exile.

“The story happened in 1970 when we were fighting against autocratic rule. Whatever the Prime Minister has said in the interview is right,” Shekhar Koirala confirmed.

“There hasn't been much criticism from political parties but there is some criticism, as he is PM,” he said, exhorting, “You must ask why he did it, in what circumstances he did it. It was the time of revolution and the Nepal Congress was in exile.”

PM Koirala says "Oops I made a RAWLY mistake" PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 17 January 2008

BY OUR DIPLOMATIC CORRESPONDENT

You must have heard many times of correction for an incorrectly printed material in a newspaper. But have you ever heard of a "correction" for a "misquoted" memoir being telecast live from a television channel? People's Review's last week's edition had published a revelation that PM G.P. Koirala himself made through his own voice and face regarding India's intelligence agency R&AW's involvement in the hijacking of the RNAC flight in 1973. As an old man, Koirala must have thought that bringing everything out about R&AW's influence in his life through the memoir being aired by Jagat Nepal in Kantipur TV will be a good contribution to the future generation of Nepalese. He has done this before regarding the then Indian Ambassador pestering Koirala about leaking what transcribed between Koirala and late King Mahendra so as to sabotage the budding relationship between the palace and the Nepali Congress back then. Hence, he said everything including secret things like his association with fake currency makers, smugglers of enriched uranium, etc. This was very correctly transcribed verbatim in the "Nepal" weekly magazine also.

RAW and plane hijacking
Prime Minister GP Koirala has of late been revealing his years of political adventurism. He has admitted having been involved in counterfeiting Indian currency notes while in exile in India. He also recently admitted that he was lured towards gold smuggling to raise money for ‘struggle for democracy in Nepal’ but had to give it up on BP Koirala’s advice. Koirala however, has claimed that he got into the fake currency business with the consent and knowledge of the legendary BP Koirala.
GP Koirala has however, withdrawn the content of his version regarding his involvement in the hijacking of Royal Nepal Aircraft in 1975 and robbery of Rs. 40 lakhs. Koirala had stated that the hijacking of the aircraft that took off from Kathmandu was done after the then Chief of RAW cleared his move.
Although the interviewee has taken the blame for the content saying, “it was wrong translation of what GP Koirala had said in Hindi,” there are repeated references of the event in Nepali in which the PM quotes BP Koirala categorically asking what the government of India would do after the hijacking.
GP’s answer to BP, in his own words was that government of India would not do anything to the hijackers. There are reports that a senior official of the Indian embassy in Kathmandu approached the PM, about the damage that his confession could cause to the image of RAW as an outfit that encouraged terrorist activities like plane hijacking.

I heard/read that - B.P. Koirala used to say - Girija is like hawaldar (means not using enough thought, but act on muscle power and having lack of analytical thoughts) and he is appropriate for guarding the gate. I felt so when reading some of his self story like - attempt to send uranium to Israel or claiming the smuggled bags.......I agree NC was on exile at that time but to do illegal things such like these doesnot show he is a wise leader.......Real Hawaldar

Why people have immortalised this quote that BP said that GP was fit only to be a hawaldar? What about BP? What type of a leader was he? Me seriously thinks he was no better than his bro GP - GP followed BP's way. So the root cause of this mess is BP not GP entirely.

It is true, he and all his followers were excused because they join the main stream and enter Nepal. His followers were

Duga Subadi

Pradeep Giri

Basnat Bhattrai

and Mr.XXXX who became the emassdor of India when Koirala became PM. We poor people are living on the faith of these lunatic politicians.

Bineet, looking at the evidences it seems more likely that the Koirala clan could come to power again and again not because of their leadership qualities but because of their closeness to RAW and other Indian agencies. Its so shameful that we are being forced to acknowledge these thugs are our national leaders. And, no surprise the country is suffering, the people are suffering.

Yes, Poon Hill- they were the precursor of Maoists - they looted and caused mayhem everywhere for a short duration ( a couple of months) and were catapulted to power.

PM Koirala’s exploits during life in exile catches the imagination of Indian media

A frank admission by Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala of his involvement in money laundering, smuggling and plane hijacking during his political exile in India in the 1970s under the tutelage of his elder brother late B.P Koirla, the first elected prime minister of Nepal, has hogged the headlines in some of the Indian newspapers and internet news sites.

This revelation by the 84-year-old leader in prime-time slot of privately-run Kantipur Television early this month shocked many viewers in the country, but largely went unreported in the media save for few weekly newspapers. It was only few days ago that leading Indian news papers including Zeenews.com, the internet edition of India’s first privately owned satellite channel Zee TV, took up the story.

In a candid interview, a jovial looking PM Koirala admitted, to the utter shock of many, that he used to print fake Indian currency notes through the support of a Bengali while being in exile in India during the 70s. He further said he came into contact with the Bengali “through some socialist friends in India” when the Nepali Congress party ran out of funding for its activities while struggling against the one-party rule of late King Mahendra in Nepal. During that time a large number of NC party workers were in exile in India.

Koirala even said that he deposited the counterfeit currency notes in a bank.

Furthermore, seeming to be very nostalgic he even accepted that at one point, he was even involved in “gold smuggling”.

During the course of the television interview, Koirala also recalled, “Once I was told by my brother to test as to whether the people recognize the fake currency or not. Thus we drove in a car. My brother stopped the car at a gasoline station. He gave me 200 rupees. The petrol pump owner received the money and filled the tank.”

Similarly, Koirala also said that in the year 1975 he had masterminded the hijacking of the Twin Otter plane belonging to Nepal Airlines (formerly Royal Nepal Airlines) along with a team of Nepali Congress party cadres.

The small state-run aircraft was carrying NRs 3.2 million of state money to Kathmandu from Biratnagar when the hijackers mainly comprising of NC workers entered the cockpit and made the pilot divert the plane towards the Indian town of Forbesgunj. Koirala was not physically involved in the hijacking, but as he was the main architect behind it, he is said to have put the loot largely under his discernment. This however, didn’t come as a surprise as many people in Nepal were aware of his involvement in the case.

It is said that a court case is still pending in Bihar court against senior NC leader Chakra Prasad Bastola, one of the masterminds of the hijacking incident. nepalnews.com ag Jan 18 08

Koirala family would have been in shadow from nepalese political plaground long time back with the death of BP Koirala if Girija and his followers hadn't hijacked the plane full of money and started printing fake note in india.. Girija isn't in the hieght because of his intellectuality or wisdom but becuase he dared to do the bad deeds which he is proudly revealing now.. such a corrupt and immoral politician...

अचम्म लागेको कुरा त के हो भने त्यस्तो घृणित कार्यलाई "बाघ मारेको" वा महान कार्य गरे जस्तो गरी बयान गरिदैं छ।
