Hey people,
tax filing is very easy, I am telling you, its a MYTH who ever says its tough!! for Student its very easy(as i am one), I am filling it for the first time, and I found is damn easy, you just need W-2, copy the same details in this FREE EFILE. Piece of cake i'm telling you....wanna waste $40 then go ahead!!

www.taxslayer.com they do it for ($10 i guess)

from IRS site...
If your adjusted gross income was $54,000 or less in 2007, you can use Free File to prepare and e-file your taxes online.

P.S: I am a Student and I don't earn Multi Million so I don't have to think about tax saving by investment or charity or family or stuff!!!

Geda_Gudi;  You are right; you can e-file federal free of cost if your income is less than 54000. But you can not do state tax together which is more in-convenient. But it may be worth of trying to save $10 and see if you can e-file free of cost from you state revenue department web site or use other tax software.

It is always advised to go to your state revenue department site and most of them have collaborated or alliance with tax software which will provide free of state filing along with federal if you qualify. So check you STATE revenue web site first to check if you qualify.( if you qualify for Earned Income you will be qualified for both)

Guys, I am just curious ...In what circumstances it is better to file with married but filing seperate status compared to  joint filing status ...Also, if parents have a son who is 23 years old and is attending college but do not live with parents. Moreover, parents are permanent residents but the son is not can they claim  their son as a dependent?.One more thing, can a husband or a wife claim his/her  spouse as a dependent in their taxes ?

Kooldude: Still you have to go through state sponsored or IRS.gov site to qualify for free.

Abhi200: If you are married and living together, married filing jointly is the best option though you can file married filing separately but you loose may credits and benefits.

If your parents are living with you an had no income or less than Personal exemption and some other rules should meet to claim them as your dependent. In your case the student is not a permanent resident so he will be filing his own tax.

In case of married couple both are tax payer, spouse is spouse not a dependent.

They should file married jointly, will get standard deduction of married filing jointly and will get 2 personal exemption.
