Dude,

i don't know where you got the news from but even if t true i am surprised to hear from you that it should be left as an accident.

Let's break down your "egg throwing" incident

1. Who would bring egg with him to a cricket stadium, if only his motive was to throw at the players

2.  Even if he did not bring those eggs, I will have to assume the vendors sold thos eggs. However, i have been to several cricket stadiums in Australia and i see them selling eggnogs but not egg.

3. Okay, now for some reason, let's assume they sold eggs. Why would the egg land on Murali of all the people in the stadium. Either murali asked for those eggs or those eggs really loved murali. I find hard to concur with both of those reasonings.

If the Indians come up and try to argument then what is wrong with it, didn't we learn to stand for the truth. We know from the past Murali is not liked by Australian and this incident, if true, was waiting to happen. I must have turned color blind but i do not know why Australians hate Murali.

These are the things that should be more open and disscussed without hurting people feeling. It should not be buried under sand and let another wind blow it again in the future.

Eggs and abuse hurled at Murali and officials

Cricinfo staff

February 2, 2008

Members of the Sri Lankan camp in Australia for the CB series were the target of verbal abuse and had eggs thrown at them on Thursday night in Hobart. Muttiah Muralitharan and a team selector were part of a group walking from a restaurant to the team hotel and the selector was hit on the back by an egg. As a result, the Sri Lankan board has asked Cricket Australia (CA) to tighten security around the team.

"Muralitharan, along with one of the selectors and the team masseur, were walking on the street in Hobart when suddenly from nowhere a car passed them and the guy starts abusing," a source close to the team confirmed to Cricinfo. "He then came back a few more times and repeated this and suddenly he started throwing eggs in their direction. One landed on the back of the selector. The team management has lodged a protest with the cops but fortunately nothing untoward happened on the ground."

It is not clear whether Muralitharan was the target of the attack, though Sri Lanka's manager, Shriyan Samararatne, suggested it was unlikely because it was dark and that the car was travelling at too great a speed for recognition. "I don't know the exact motive," Samararatne told AAP. "I doubt whether they recognised Murali but unfortunately he was there. We told Cricket Australia about it and they were very upset."

Samararatne added also that nothing untoward had occurred when Sri Lanka played a Test in Hobart last November. Reacting to the incident, Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Arjuna Ranatunga said the team should look ahead and focus on the CB Series, which kicks off with a match between Australia and India on Sunday.

"I have spoken to Murali and team manager Shriyan Samararatne and they told me that they are not upset by what had happened," Ranatunga said. "I have asked for a full report on the incident from the manager. Samararatne told me that he was not sure whether the team members were the target. I told him that the team should not lose focus on what they have come to achieve in Australia - to win the tri-series."

Muralitharan's presence is bound to complicate matters. The spinner, who is the world's leading Test wicket-taker, has had a difficult time in Australia in the past. He was no-balled for throwing early in his career in 1995-96 and some Australian spectators have heckled him on subsequent tours. The reaction was so hostile Muralitharan refused to tour Australia in 2004, but he returned for Sri Lanka's series last November when the trouble seemed to have eased off.

K Mathivanan, the SLC secretary, said the board had informed CA about the matter and had asked for security for the team to be enhanced. "We have drawn the attention of Cricket Australia to this incident yesterday," Mathivanan told PTI.

"They have already given the team security. But we have asked the authorities whether this can be beefed up further." Sri Lanka play their first match of the tri-series against India in Brisbane on Tuesday.

Rotten egg prank could have turned bad

Peter English

February 4, 2008

Tasmanian car containing a batch of egg throwers was fortunate to escape after pelting a small group of Sri Lankans in Hobart last week. Muttiah Muralitharan would have been in hot pursuit of the drive-by yolkers if he and his fellow tourists were not so shocked by the flying object, which hit a selector in the back, but they laughed it off as a random act.

While the Sri Lankans reported the incident on Friday, Mahela Jayawardene, their captain, said a green light saved the car's passengers, who were "probably drunk", from being chased by the men in the group.

"If Murali had a stone or something near him he would've thrown it back," Jayawardene said in Brisbane. "By the time they had realised what had happened the car had raced down the road. It was lucky for the guys in the car that the traffic light was green, otherwise Murali said he would have chased them."

Jayawardene joked it would have been funny if the egg had hit Murali instead of a selector. "It was a just a random thing and not a big deal," he said. "We all had a good laugh about it. We didn't want the matter to escalate so we lodged the complaint and left it at that. Murali was part of the group and the only recognisable person, but we all are fine with the matter."

Muralitharan has received a lot of poor treatment in Australia and even though it was unlikely the occupants of the car recognised him, the fact that a group of Sri Lankan tourists was singled out is a poor reflection on the host country.

Another spinner, India's Harbhajan Singh, has also been targeted following his part in the race controversy involving Andrew Symonds at the SCG, and Symonds' home crowd chanted "Harbhajan's a w***er" during the opening ODI of the CB Series.

Jayawardene said it was important to "block everything" out during tours of Australia. "When you come here it's not just the players who are aggressive, it's also the crowd who are as aggressive as their team," he said. "Everyone wants to win here in any sport, so teams need to prepare for that.

"We should block everything else apart from what needs to be done in the middle. The Indians showed that with the way they bounced back in the Test series recently after what all happened in Sydney."
