This one is gotta be the most lopsided trade from the three blockbuster trades made in the NBA so far.

The Mavericks trade five players including Harris, Stackhouse, Devean George, Diop and Ager, give up two first round draft picks and $3 million for an old point guard in the form of Jason Kidd.

All I can hope is the BEST for the Mavs but I think this is a bad trade for them as they were more in need of a decent Center (instead of hopeless Dampier) than a point guard. I hope I am proved wrong and the Mavs win a championship this year.

Sahayog bro, I think Kidd is exactly what the Mavs need...As far as I've seen in his time at the Nets, he's been a one man team all along: consistent and anytime he over-performs, the Nets win (this was until about 2 years ago...Getting Carter was unnecessary IMO).  Also, Kidd would be exactly what Nowitzski needs: And unselfish point-guard who is all out in making his team-mates better...I'd say that the Nets lost out on this one and look out for the Mavs to be better once the Kidd has settled himself there...A few weeks after the All Star break.  Also, a few point out that Kidd is lil too old, but c'mon he has 2 Final's experience and this seasoned vet is exactly what the Mavs need to finaly go all the way...BTW, the Mav's loss in the first round of the playoffs was perhaps the greatest disappointment in all of recent sports memory (after the Pats lost to the Giants 2 weeks ago).

Samsara, I understand that Kidd is good and is one of the best points guards the league has seen. But it is pretty obvious that Kidd is way past his prime and IMO is not even worth Dallas bred Devin Harris. Furthermore, they give up their bench, $3M and two 1st round draft picks which will be a big boon for the Nets. And with a healthy Harris and Stack teaming up with the overrated  Carter and decent Jefferson, I will not be surprised if New Jersey emerges as true Eastern Conference Contenders.

The Mavs once had a better Jason Kidd in Steve Nash and could not take it all the way. They were and still in need of a Center who can score while dominating the paint  ...some one like Bynum and Shaq........

I think this is all just a "envious" reaction towards Lakers' stealing Gasol out of the blues ;).  Dallas had their chance two years ago. Someone tell me, how did they blow such an opportunity against Miami Heat?

I've been a big fan of Kidd over the years particularly when he starred in both Dallas and then Phoenix. Though he's the king of triple doubles, one thing he surely lacks is a shooter's touch. Of course! he makes up for that with his incredible assists, but then when the game is on the line, who's gonna take that shot for Dallas  (having given up Stackhouse and Harris?)

This NBA season has been a very tupsy-turvy season for a lot of teams. But there's a big reason to feel GOOD for us lakers' fans...at least for the next few years (especially now that Kobe has stopped being a crybaby and playing some team basketball). And can anyone show Issiah Thomas the exit ? Forget about lopsided trades, what he has done to the knicks is beyond comprehension!!!!

Sahayog, I still think Kidd at his prime was better than Nash ever was...Why?  Kidd took a team with nobody known into 2 finals...That was the genius of this guy who made all around him look good.  Look at K-Mart: In the Nets, this guy was All Star material...He was counted among the most dominating forwards but once traded to the nuggets, he's just a page in the history books...a could've/would've story!  In contrast, Nash had Marion and Stoudemire who were already creating a havoc in the Western Conference even before he got there.  They perfectly compliemented his running game.  Would Nash've been able to do the wonders he does without the running game?

IMO, don't overlook Kidd as he still has a few more years and a team like the Mavs, with little time left and the whole management in disarray after last year's early exit, need to take the crown soon as they too are running outta time.

Oys bro, you're a fan of the Lakers?  Thats the team I despised the most back in da days (when they won the 3peat championships...ironically all my cousins here loved these cats).  I failed to find anything worthwhile or good about Shaq's game back then; It was pure physical power!  But when it came to Kobe, he has been amongst my faves forever.  Who else in the game could ever score so easily like this guy can? Many people say Wilt chamberlain, but the thing is that back during Wilt's era, defense was non-existant...It was totally structured around offense!  Also, Wilt was 7 feet 4, which back then was a giant (even in NBA standards), this made it especially easy to postion his play in the post (and 3 seconds were not yet in effect).  Today, how many 7 footers you see running around?  Even the college game has these giants now.  All in all, I'd say that without the rape allegations that took place, Kobe would've surpassed MJ in his hey-day (in terms of fan-fare, endorsement contracts and the whole nine yards).  A simple allegation is what it took to bring down one of the greatest players ever...I see the same happeing to Clemens' legacy after the allegations into the HGH and steroid use.   Even if the Rocket is exonerated of the charges, the tarnish still remains!

I agree with Samsara. Jason Kidd will be a perfect fit in Dallas. No one knows for sure if Harris will be any good in the future. He has shown some signs( more this year than previous years) but he is very inconsisitent and injury prone. As far as Stackhouse is concerned, Nets are gonna buy-out his contract so that he can sign with Dallas after 30 days. Diop is an offensive liability and George did not fit in Dallas at all. Ager hasn't shown anything since he was drafted. Draft picks in NBA is not as poweful as draft picks in NFL. It would hamper the Mavericks only if they fall into the  lottery which i doubt will happen in next 3 years. Mavericks have the best chance to win in next couple of years than in next five year or so. In Kidd they get a proven warrior and a lot of toughness in guard position which they lack.

All said and done, I just hope that Jason Kidd's 2nd tenure in Dallas is successful. By success I mean a ring, not just a top string team that the Mavs were already without him.  They somehow still need to bring in a Big scoring center as Dampier is more often injured than not and you dont wanna have Dirk play that position come playoff time. Damnnnn.......We need a center ..otherwise we will get bullied in the paint....

yup, its long overdue and I truly hope the Kidd gets the ring he so richly deserves (after such an illustrious career), otherwise he goes down in history as the 2nd Stockton.  And Nowitzki as the 2nd Malone!!  LOLs

If only they could've done what Gary Payton did by following Shaq around like a lil hobbit on crack.  And yeah, that bugger did finally end up with the big kahuna in the end.  All props to him!

You give all that for a player who is going to be with you for few months.... doesn't make sense to me. And other Western teams are getting bigger and Dallas is going other way. I am sure sports junkie like Cuban must know what he is getting in return for all those youngsters. I thank Cuban getting Kidd. This will make Kidd to play harder from which will boost my Fantasy Team :=)

Center play is important in playoffs for sure. But there aren't any good centers available for trade. Let's not underestimate Damp. He is a  double double  guy. This year they have Bass who can play both 4 & 5. The only concern Mavericks might have is if they face Spurs because they won't have anyone to guard Parker. Other than that the Mavs fan should be happy. I can't wait for the Western conf. playoffs to start. It's gona be awesome this year.

THINGS GETTING INTERESTING

With the New Jersey Nets poised to complete a blockbuster deal to send Jason Kidd back to Dallas on Wednesday night, Mavericks reserve forward Devean George has unexpectedly exercised his right to block the trade, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the teams verbally agreed to the deal earlier Wednesday and were preparing to submit the trade for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn't consent to being included in the deal, which is his right based on a rare provision in his one-year contract. (ESPN.COM)

No worries Dallas fans. I found out why Cuban is doing this trade. He is sure that they are going to meet Warriors again. Kidd would be a perfect guy to halt their foe Nellie and Warriors. To negate the Shaqster and Gasol they will ask Mavs legend Bradley to come back and play for that elusive ring :p

Interesting match today as Mavs play the Suns at Phoenix ..............

Dallas minus Howard means that Dirk is gonna take about 25-30 shot attempts ...if he makes like 55% of those shots Mavs gonna win

Afterall,

The Kidd is coming to Dallas. This time the deal looks slightly favorable towards the Mavs as they retain one of their best players in the bench in Jerry Stackhouse. The Mavs starting lineup looks pretty formidable right now but I still think they need a better Center than Damp. Anyway who is gonna play the Center while Dampier rests?? Not Dirk ofcourse, maybe Bass then???
