i am graduating with a graduate degree in econ/finance from a top public school in eastcoast but i am having a hard time getting a job in areas realted to finance and economics...i have interviewed with few companies on campus but nothing have worked out so far...the interview offers have been few and far by ...is this because of how the economy's is doing this year? or i am being plain unlucky...

Also i would appreciate if someone knows whats the best way to look for the job in this area? i need to find something before i graduate..

regards

if you look and talk smart try as a financial consultant from A express. Its tuff as they don't hire international, but they do make exceptions. I did not had enough resources back at the time, so couldn't afford going for it. Plus the base salary is low and its a commission based job, which means y'd get fired if you are not good.
BUT
on the bright side, if you can get some good clients (which also means good referrals ) you can be making 200K + in about 3 yrs.

If you want to join a dhoti consultancy like me - you are more then welcome. I can hook you up with not finance, but finance it. SAS.com
best of luck.

Not to be pessimist, I was a broken heart who had couple of job offers from good companies for Risk Analyst job but hey still got my H1 visa rejected. Lucky me I did tripple major in Econ, Management and Comp Sci and this IT $hit was the one that came handy as an immigrant. Aftermath of 9/11, demand for Finance and econ jobs has plummeted steeply and BTW Amex job literally s...ucks big time, please if you don't have enough contacts don't get in this crap......

Anywho, it's not that you won't get H1B sponsorship these days in this field but however things have changed a lotttttttt since musalte's dumbo act..... Blame 'em.....

Whateva it is keep trying, hey things that didn't work for me might turn lucky for you.....

Good Luck!!!!

Man...its already too late for most of the positions. Most of the good companies hire people before January. Some send offers mainly in the months of October and November and few even give offers in September.

However, see if consulting is the job for you. I am not talking about IT consulting but rather, economic, financial and strategic consulting.
Search for those three keywords and you should have a fair idea about what these companies do. And, this is specially good if you think you might want to go to graduate school at some point in areas related to economics because these firms use econometrics extensively and expect the same from candidates.
