Dear Madhesi Daajubhai, Didibahiniharu

Thanks a lot for being united to raise the voice of right. After the negotiation with the government, you have already achieved your goal, now is the time to institutionalize what you have achieved. If your agitation is for right, you have already achieved it-if it is to prevent the successful conduction of CA election, there is a lot more for you to do before you are consigned to a lifetime of servitude and poverty. The ball is now in your court to choose – either be a part of common nepali vision of peace and prosperous Nepal by taking part in the historic CA election, or be ready to accept the blame of preventing the historic change which is all set to institutionalize the achievement of our great martyrs.

I was, among the group of my Nepali friends, the strongest advocate of the madhesi agitation. But since a couple of days, I have been amazed with the way the madhesi leaders are misusing the sentiments of madhesi people for the interest of the reactionary and feudal elements. Even a layman can now understand that these leaders want to save monarchy. I can very proudly say that Nepali constitution ( in the past, and in the interim one) does not have a politics of hate towards any religion, caste, region, or community. We do not have any incident of violence in the past where in any community was targeted. We never had to fear of any violence because of our origin, religion , or region. Think of india, where 3000 sikhs were killed in a violence that erupted after Indira Gandhi was killed; 2000 people were killed in Gujarat by violence initiated by chauvinistic hindus, allegedly supported by the then gujarati government. As an example about the politics of hate towards people of other community in India, we have a fresh memory of how Raj Thakery targeted north-indians in Mumbai. Dear Madhesis, have you ever been targeted in any kind of such inhumane brawl like this. I know your answer- its no…and you are believing India to acquire your right. Shame on you, you do not know how people from Bihar are treated in other states of India.

It hurts to me when you target pahadis with your agitation, it hurts to all who has heart. We need to learn to assimilate, not to divide. The first thing to bring about the change is the constitution which doesnot have any bias on any basis. The second, but most important thing is the change in the attitude. Instead of trying to come up with the changed attitude, you are showing the attitude which will keep the madhesis and pahadis apart forever.

WELL SAID ...................... what i dont understant about the current madhesi movement is all about???,,,,,,,,,,I dont see anyway how madheshi people have been treated differently that any other people in Nepal .well they have same rights as anyother nepalese citizen and they  are in different goverenment departments and private sectors.......................

well so what is this all for then?????????????????? And the demand for asking separate state and changing the national language is just plain wrong............and those leaders who are  trying to divide country on the basis of religion, commuity and ethinicity should be thrown out of the country...

dhimaar jee!

if you have walked the streets around dharan and pokhara for 30 days, you would have seen at least 300 or more such incidance humiliating madheshi for almost all aspects. evenif they know one is from a district from terai, never hesitated to call them bihari (the word itself a GAALI).

       friends! don't just be hippocrat...........................

Wow are some of you guys really serious when you give a statement like "I dont see anyway how madheshi people have been treated differently that any other people in Nepal". I wouldn't blame all of us for the current problems in Nepal because all the people in the Terai region stayed in harmony. It was people from cities like KTM, Pokhara, Dharan who are so convinced of their own superiority that they don't think people from other regions have feelings. They have derogatory terms for people from every region other region from Nepal. When they are done with the others they call each other names. I guess we are paying our dues for years of suppression. If there is one thing I believe in, its "KARMA". What goes around , comes around.  We could do all the LOL's we want. but  their (the weak and suppressed) turn will come to do the LOL...
Its sad to see people standing in line for hours for a liter of Kerosene. Some of them are so young and might have nothing to do with the current situation.
I guess its a lesson for all of us that "We need to treat all human beings with respect no matter what caste, color, ethnicity, rich or poor". If not this will keep happening for years....
May God help the poor, weak and innocent and give them courage to survive through this tough time in our country.

Jobs1, well said!
I do not blame agitating people from Madhesh for their desire to earn respect and equality for a change. I also do not blame the reaction towards these actions that we commonly see from general public. It is definitely easy for us to judge based on the superficial violence and all the chaos that is going on around in Nepal and come to a conclusion that what is happening is a wrongdoing or 'bad'. After all, even our ability to use the internet and spend a few minutes or hours in Sajha attests to the fact that we are relatively privileged. In that sense we are all coming from some level of bias. But just for a second if we force ourselves to fit in the shoes of those who have been denied rights for quite a long time, who work all day in the farms of other people yet fail to put a sano roti ko tukra in the plate for their little children, whose voices and requests to the govt go astray, comman, that's gotta be a freakin' frustrating experience. Even thinking about it boils my blood. If I am actually experiencing this in a day to day basis and if someone offers me a hope, man, you can bet on it - I will worship that person to death! But again, politics is a dirty game, which has become quite a cliche in the context of Nepal. So, people craving for hope can be more easily manipulated. But again, the next chapter of revolution and change can arise from there, should the people feel the need, just like the way they had acknowledge the need for change in the start.
So, what the hell did I just bark about?
Plain and simple put it your way - things are more complex in the inside than they appear from the outside.

But... Ktm_bis's point is also well taken. We certainly don't want to see Nepal face the ethnic war, which will be more devastating. The hatred and pain that has developed over the course of time has finally funneled through Terai 'revolution' and has the potential of becoming ever more violent, should the government fail to come to a compromise. All we (esp those in the US) can do  is be part of an audience of this crazy film of politics and hope the heroes improvise the story to bring a positive ending. Because, I certainly don't want to spend any more money on tissue paper!

Good relaxion....I believe u. I told u I was/am the strong advocate of madhesi rights. And you might have felt that there had been attempts to direct the Madhesi sentiments for the benefit of those who disenfranchised the madhesis of their rights from centuries. I saw the elements in the leadership of madhesis who used people solely for  their personal interest, being driven by feudal forces. I know I am from a privileged community, and so I might be biased. But being in a circle of madhesi friends, and having seen many of my madhesi friends facing biases on the basis of origin; I strongly advocated for a rational agitation. I hope things have come to a good ending. The extremists will still try to use the sentiments of underprivileged people in days to come to create a situation of havoc. People like us should be united- we are all the same- be it pahadis or madhesis- we are all nepali.Lets move with common goal, if we stand united, we have myriads of resources to use, diversity should not be blamed, its our property. Jai madhes! Jai pahads! Jai Nepal!!!

Nepe
