Does anyone know how good or bad mitsubishi mirage is? I'm planning on buying a used one with just over 100,000 miles on it. Any suggestion is highly appreciated.

Mitsubishi cars are junk .. not sure about the newer ones, but 2006 and older are not that dependable. There's a reason why they command such a poor resale value. If you go to edmunds.com, you can go to the community forum and see the car's rating. They are not good gas-wise and maintenance wise. I had a 2001 Mirage myself and it was junk. Only thing is that it lasted me better because it was a stick-shift.

xtantun,

i dont recommend you to buy a mistibushi mirage ove 100k milage.

the main problem that u can face is transmission problem.

over 100k milage, the shifting of gear from 3 to 4 wont be smooth and after some times ultimately it will crew up. so u need to change ur transmission.

this is the main problem with mirage. beside these, a lot of problem will occur with this car.

so i dont suggest u to buy it.

rest is your decision.

all the best for getting better cars..........

You will have more fun in driving  Eclipse than civic. If it is manual , I will prefer  Eclipse than Civic.

Compare apples with apples - you cannot compare a regular Civic with Eclipse. Eclipse is a way powerful vehicle than regular Civic models. The comparable Civic model is Civic SI. Both are equally good but maintenance-wise I'd stick with Honda.

I beg to defer to the statement "You will have more fun in driving  Eclipse than civic. If it is manual , I will prefer  Eclipse than Civic". Civic has two options 1.8L and 2.0L Vtec engine. If you go with the 2.0L Vtech engine with manual transmission they are much more fun to drive than an Eclipse. The 4 cyl eclipse seems very heavy meaning the engine is underpowered for the size and weight of the body. The 6 cyl may give you more power but you could get similar or better "Pep" with a Civic for better gas efficiency. You may also want to try the RX-8. A rotary engine and only a 1.3L size awesome handling. A pickup like no other in its class. Nothing compared to RX-7 but they don't make those anymore.
If I had to choose between the three I would go with a Civic, followed by RX-8 and than maybe an Eclipse but thats just me.
If you do buy a 2.0L Vtec Civic you may want to get atleast 18" rims and Z rated tires for summer. You will love the ride.
Caution: A full coverage insurance is high for Civics because it is the most stolen vehicle in the US.

Getting back on track, I would not buy a Mirage simply cuz they went out of production in 2002.  If you are going for a Mitsubishi that is cheap and affordable why don't you go for the normal Lancer instead. That's a pretty good good sub-compact car aswell.

As for racing and driving comfort, forget the Civics^^^ and the Eclipses^^^ ..Just go for the turbo-charged Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX..
