Folks,

Lets put some thoughts together about the business opportunities where we can invest our money on in Nepali market. At least it is good for ourselves and some contribution goes towards our hurt motherland.

Any good, tested or planned plan?

Well it all depends on your entrepreneurship, money you have and financing you will be getting and your sole interest. So it is easy to talk about business.

I heard about Mr. HONDA who used to go to college in USA always wanted to have a business a little different than others. He opened MoMo stores, different than others upscale one and doing well in Kathmandu.

So, if you do not have entrepreneurship skill start something like that, you will not be loosing money rather earning entrepreneurship skills. If you want to copy others then you need to outsmart other to stay in compitition.

 

Well I'd say,
Pay something like 50% as Maoists tax and any business would be profitable. hahaha

Well,

That was a very good idea, MOMO stores, of not copying others and and is very creative eventhough it's a small investment. What else could be done differently in Nepal from all those running businesses. If anybody inerested, I definitely want to hear some more business fields from small to big investments.

 

Spending in energy field would be a very good investment in Nepal. Be it hydro power, fossil fuel  or even cost effective solar panels. I don't see any loss in the energy sector.

Before I came to United States, I had worked in some professional sector as well as owned some kind of business. On top of that, I had business education upto my Masters Degree. From my experience, exposure and expertise gained, I've discovered so many lucrative areas where we can invest into. One should have entreprenurial instincts, a creative genious and ability to assume risks at times. Though temporarily there are some problems as such security and access to market, I believe a good investment would take a new height if it is handled professionally. It may sound arrogant, but I guarantee I have numerous propositions about business that embrace both innovation as well as change.

How about in banner business?  Since there are so many protests...everyone needs banner.  And who is making them?  I m sure that market is also saturated but could explore more into that.

They do well when the country is unstable.

Its strange but true.

We all believe your authentic knowledge in business; but atleast could you mind to elaborate the investments fields, possibilities, securitie and risks in current market.

 

how about running a recreation parks,  strip clubs, cyber cafe, hardware stores, or opening a boarding schools with american education system?

This is my fellow friend's story. His friend came with an idea to have fry fish shop as in Biratnagar; he has to be in the counter after his 10-5 job. Need to put ¼ of working capital but giving him 50/50 profit because of his honesty and needed some one to handle the cash in prime business hours.

He consulted with his family and it was a hit debate, my friend was 100 % leaning to do it, but some one in the family's family side told him how about " bajeko bhat pasal". The proposal did not work out and my fellow left the country, he is doing okay. Some one did it and now he is a one sahuji.

What really happened to my friend is " Status Quo" issue, not with him but his family's relative. So my point is , we see work with " status quo ". For him that is low level business, for upscale business he does not have entrepreneurship.  To survive and success you must have to have entrepreneurship, in Nepali " sajhe ki bajhe', you can not do business with dependent of others ( in Nepal).  Mr. Karki loaned his house for rice business with partnership now his house in auction. Can not be done business being dependent.

I am not trying to discourage any one but this status quo is complicated thing in Nepaliese life.

 

How about running 24/7 clinicks with Ambulance facility?

Well, I'm doing the most obvious business between Malaysia and Nepal i.e. tours & treks. I have a registered company operating in Malaysia. My business is done in collaboration with tour companies in Kathmandu. I source for local tourist, pre-arrange personalised tour packages and even travel with the group, if I have to.

Its like an unofficial investment. Both the tour company in KTM and my own company make a profit. I'm not looking at big bucks for a start but for good business relationship with reliable companies, on a long term basis.

But a good way, (if you have a large amount of capital) is to set up a small manufacturing factory producing consumable products. Besides all the business skills, you need to trust your partners, you need patience to wait through the initial years, you need continued marketing and upgrading.

If your business can provide employment for those unemployed people, than your business will go a long way.

If you think more about who benefits from what you have to offer, instead of what your benefits are.....then you will ultimately have a successful business.

You never know until you try.....

What about off shore businesses like desigining UIs, systems, etc in Nepal like yomari.com. is doing. You know one of the biggest advantage of our country is like more than 50% of the population are youth (18-40 yrs) and since most of the school teaches some level of English, with little further training in computers, Nepal could emerge as one of the best places for IT and business off shoring. Only if our ministers or others would make some legality to it.

Also, another advantage i see is that we Nepalis are very spontaneous people and we could be very creative in this area, i really have very high hopes for the country and the new youth. I think it will come one day where rest of the world is getting older, we can definitely make a difference.

 

Quick List :

- Energy sector ( hydro power, solar or fossil fuel)

- Finance sector ( Banking, Insurance etc)

- Education ( Universities and higher education beyond 12th grade)

- Transportation ( Mass transit, Aviation sector)

- Etrade and E-business with the popularity of internet and speed nepali version of ebay could sell real well

- Fast Food Chains

- Drive Through Car Wash (for people who can afford to show off!! lot of nepalis)

- Event Management + Advertisement (great scope as more and more corporations are born)

- Entertainment - bars, clubs, strip clubs (worlds oldest professions, no doubt abt this field)
