If there's someone who's been in this situation please give me some advice. I'm currently in the US and I just got accepted into a competitive medical school here. I want to go to Nepal in the summer but I need to get a visa to come back because it has already expired. The school is quite expensive and I will be taking out a loan to pay for it. I know that I will have to show my parents bank info but the embassy may question how they are going to pay for all 4 years of school. If I tell them that I'm taking a loan from an american bank are they going to be reluctant to give me a visa? I may be taking a huge risk by going back but I really do want to go home. Anyone else with the same experience?

If you are not out of status, Go to Canada or Mexico to get visa, instead of going to nepal.

I know lot of friends went to mexico and canada and got visa and then went to nepal. If you are working on OPT  and have enrolled or going to I think you would be fine to go canada or mexico. But If you are only working on OPT then there is a risk involve even if you go to Canada or mexico. Listen everybody and make your own decision. Good Luck.

First of, Congratulations on your acceptance in a Medical School; you seem to be a genius to be accepted in a Med School on an International Student's quota. You can travel outside the country in OPT if:

1. you are working using your OPT and that you will have your employment even after you get back to the US after travelling abroad. You will need youe employer's letter stating this

2. you have a valid visa

These are the only two exceptions using which you can travel while on OPT. You might want to consult an immigration attorney on what chances you have of getting a visa if you go to Mexico or Canada and apply from there.

I would think it would be a whole lot better to go after you have started in the med school because that  way you can show documents proving you're attending med school and would become an MD in a few years. You know the schope of MD's here and so will make your case stronger.

Good Luck

Oh yeah good job on your acceptance.

OK, first of all there is always possibility of denial for applicants (except for H and L visa) if they are not able to show proof of binding ties to a residence in Nepal which they have no intention of abandoning. This can be categoried under section 221(g) which is also for any missing/inadequate documents.

So, that being said its much safer for H and L visa to appear in interview than other visas like F visa. Now regarding whether to goto Nepal or Canada or Mexico. It might be little easier in Canada or Mexico but there is this risk that if your visa got denied you have to go straight back to Nepal from Canada or Mexico. Again, it might be little hard in Nepal due to situation in Nepal but its again our home country so, if the visa got declined we can reapply staying at our home. At least we have our home in Nepal.

So, my suggestion is if you think you have possibility of visa getting declined, then don't travel outside USA unless its very urgent.

Thanks and I hope this helps.

first congratulations! If I were you I wouldn't take any chances. I mean come on getting into medical school here and also having means to finance it why would you risk that?

My humble advice - don't go anywhere if you absolutely don't have to. Stick it out for another few years or more, after all you have gotten this far.
