I need your expertise in english word. I need a translation of nepali word. I do not have health insurance. And I am severely suffering from 'haandi', I think thats what they call in Nepal. They used to stick big white squared bandage below your ears (in the jaw).
I do not know what do they call it in English.

Please help, I couldn't sleep since last two days. And this is my only hope as I am a student and I dont have enough money to visit abdoctor.

Thanks.

Sajhafan, if it is indeed mumps, then I have some news for you.(from wiki mumps)

Mumps or epidemic parotitis is a viral disease of the human species. ... and is still a significant threat to health in the third world.[1]

Painful swelling of the salivary glands (classically the parotid gland) is the most typical presentation.[2] Painful testicular swelling and rash may also occur. ...symptoms in teenagers and adults can be ... as infertility or subfertility are relatively common, although still rare in absolute terms.

Treatment

There is no specific treatment for mumps. Symptoms may be relieved by the application of intermittent ice or heat to the affected neck area and by Acetaminophen/Paracetamol (Tylenol) for pain relief. ...Warm salt water gargles, soft foods, and extra fluids may also help relieve symptoms.

Patients are advised to avoid fruit juice or any acidic foods, since these stimulate the salivary glands, which can be painful.

Prognosis

Death is very unusual. The disease is self-limiting, and general outcome is good, even if other organs are involved. Mumps viral infections in adult males carries a 25% risk that the testes may become infected leading to sterility. After the illness, life-long immunity to mumps generally occurs.

And this bit from WebMD

  • Use acetaminophen for fever or headache. Do not give aspirin to anyone younger than 20 because its use has been linked to a rare but serious illness called Reye's syndrome.
  • Place an ice or a heat pack, whichever feels better, on the swollen jaw if there is pain from the swelling. Place a light towel between the jaw and the ice pack or heat pack to protect the skin. Remove the pack after 20 minutes.
  • Place an ice pack intermittently on tender testicles. Gentle support may also be comforting and reduce swelling. See how to make and use an ice pack.
  • Suck on ice chips or flavored ice treats, such as Popsicles. Eat soft foods that do not require chewing.
  • Do not eat sour foods or sour liquids. Because infected salivary glands are extremely sensitive, it may be difficult to eat these foods.
  • Get well soon

hade (infllamation of salivary and paratiod glands) is called mumps  not tonsillitis(inflammation of tonsills).

    Mumps Symptoms

The mumps virus enters your body through the nose and throat. You may start to feel symptoms as the virus multiplies and spreads to the brain and the membranes that cover it, to the glands (usually the salivary glands), pancreas, testicles, ovaries, and to other areas of the body.

Symptoms usually last about 10 days and may include:

    • Swelling and pain in one or more of the salivary glands. One or both cheeks may look swollen. Many people consider swollen parotid glands to be a classic sign of mumps, but this symptom can also develop with other conditions.
    • Fever of 101 F to 104 F.
    • Headache, earache, sore throat, and pain when swallowing or opening the mouth.
    • Pain when eating sour foods or drinking sour liquids, such as citrus fruit or juice.
    • Tiredness, with aching in the muscles and joints.
    • Poor appetite and vomiting.

Up to one-third of people who are infected with the mumps virus do not have any symptoms, especially children younger than 2 years.

Infected people can spread the virus 1 to 2 days before symptoms start and for 5 days after symptoms start.

The incubation period-the time from when a person is first infected with the virus until the first symptoms develop-is usually 16 to 18 days, although it can be as long as 25 days.

Contact your doctor immediately if you have symptoms of complications, such as a stiff neck or severe headache (related to meningitis), painful, tender testicles (from orchitis), and upper or lower abdominal pain (caused by pancreatitis or oophoritis

    Tonsillitis Symptoms

The main symptom of tonsillitis is a sore throat. Additional symptoms occur in most cases. Some or all of the following may be present:

    • Fever
    • Bad breath
    • Nasal congestion and runny nose
    • Swollen lymph nodes
    • Red, swollen tonsils covered completely or in patches by pus
    • Difficulty swallowing
    • Headache
    • Abdominal pain
    • Raw, bleeding patches on the tonsils

When sore throat is accompanied by coldlike symptoms such as nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and coughing, the cause is most likely a virus. Viral infection of the tonsils usually goes away without treatment within 2 weeks.

Sore throat with a sudden fever above 101 F-milder fever may indicate a viral infection-and swollen lymph nodes, and without symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection, may indicate a bacterial infection. Anyone with these symptoms should see a health professional for diagnosis because of the risk of strep throat. Although strep throat will usually go away even without treatment, an untreated strep infection can lead to complications including rheumatic fever, which can permanently damage the heart.
