1 "I would deeply appreciate your advice. I am a co-founder of the Liberty County Paranormal Research team in southeast Texas. It has been a dream of mine to explore the paranormal world, I just realized that I could do that. My team and I are all new to this, and have a lot of questions on the way things work. I am finding a hard time on finding any information on the key things that I need to know. For one, "orbs?". I beleive they are something but how are we suppose to go about determining whether or not they are bugs, light reflection, or the real deal? I need to research intelligent/residual hauntings, the demonic, how to envoke a spirit, how to protect myself from the un-known. These are things that I can't find any information about. You are by far the most experienced and intelligent person I have stumbled upon. If you have the time, please give me an idea of some books I can buy, or where I can find the answers to my questions. You must approach this as a scientist would approach an experiment. Constantly check for conditions and consider the probable prior to accepting the improbable. Read up on the experimental method and learn to follow the steps to eliminate all the possibilities down to one.

Intelligent residual hauntings – this is where I might differ with the paranormal crowd. There's no such thing as a residual haunting. If there are signs of a spirit's presence, it's a haunting and more than likely the spirit is tormented or troubled and needs to be released. Yes, at times there are more "intelligent" spirits who choose to remain here of their own free will, but that is not often the case. If the spirit is not doing anything harmful or destructive then it is sending a signal that it likes it there, it likes you there and wants to keep the status quo. But if it is causing fright and damage then it's seeking help or is angry for being there.

Demonic hauntings – you need to find a professional that can do this for you. Just that a layperson decides to become a demon hunter/exorcist does not make him or her one. You're opening a door that requires not only years of prayer and study, but being prepared to do battle 24/7 for the rest of your life. Demons are not ghosts, they don't play fair, and in an encounter with one if you're not prepared it can turn out deadly.

Invoking spirits – I would seek at least a psychic to do this for you. If you're not careful you could cause the spirit to become attached to you.

The entire ghost hunting/paranormal investigating field is still in its infancy stages. Do not get upset with the lack of information out there. But here are some book titles:

2 "I know this sounds naive' but, I always thought the good out weights evil. Is this so?" Ka

Good does not outweigh evil, nor does evil outweigh good. They are the same in strength and power. If we are talking about the battle of good vs. evil on this physical plane, then by the force of good karma good will defeat evil in time. And how does good karma come about? Through prayers, meditation, good works, and acts of love and compassion. Now as to the struggle of good and evil on the spiritual plane that's a different subject altogether. It will be a part of my upcoming blog on Thursday as I return to the subject of demonology. Be that as it may, you have to understand in the structure of things man ranks low on the power scale. In Christian teaching it is God, then the Son, then the Holy Spirit, and if you have faith in the feminine side of God, she ranks equal with God. After the Holy Trinity, angels follow them and they have a power ranking as well. Then comes man.

Because demons are fallen angels, they rank higher than man, and you can't forget demi-gods and other gods, they rank higher then men but lower than the Holy Trinity, hence that is why the act of exorcism is so hard to perform. Neither I nor any other exorcist can do it on my/our own, as we must be helped by a wide array of good entities to battle the dark entities that we face.

Like Paul says, every time I set out to do good I do bad. Not because we are evil, but spiritual men have weaknesses. That's why this divine man new age teaching is very troubling. We have the spark of the creator in us but we can never be on par with the creator.

Good will overcome evil if we know the right means of applying the good to the wounds created by evil.

3 "I have had problems with spirit attachment. Have done everything I was told to do in so far as cleansing. A few people have worked on me but say not sure if it is all taken care of.

But I see a month or 2 will go by and things are the same. I'm told this problem has to do with a past life. I made some sort of pact that cannot be broken. I don't believe it can't but feel I need some help.

If this is something I can do on my own and perhpas haven't tried something, could you let me know so I can continue to search for the answers. I've tried everything from prayer which I do daily, meditation, crystals, sage, holy water adn oil, healings, aura cleansings and always keeping a positive attitude although I will admit fear comes into play since I was attacked here in my home a few months ago. That spirit has gone but been replaced I feel." Muse

One issue that might be causing the attachment to reappear is the matter of fear. When it comes to any spiritual battle you CAN'T HAVE ANY FEAR AT ALL. Fear is a sign of lack of faith. You must develop a faith in the fact that when you're in the light and protected by all that is good and understand that the divine forces have nothing but love and compassion for you then none can harm you. That all prayers will be answered and protection requested will be granted.

Also, you might be in a state of "vexation" it's a form of haunting by evil spirits that produces bad luck, emotional and physical discomfort as well as constant turmoil. You should be able to visit a local priest and speak to him about prayers that can release you from this state. But be advised that it will not be 100% successful if you're not totally confident in victory over the darkness.

4 "Me and my fience rented a 4 bdrm one story home about a year ago. The house makes a lot of wierd creeks, and one creek happens at 2:30 a.m. every morning right by the kitchen window. We had one roommate that swore she saw the side door in the garage close, however the path to that door is blocked off. We had another roommate who saw a picture swinging in the front room on the fireplace. The picture was crooked the day before and the day after it was straight.

And on a diffrent note two years ago on May 3 my fience's first wife Tatyana shot herself. Her ashes are here in the house with us, as well as a lot of her possessions. There are times when I feel she is psychically communicating with me, but its so subtle that I wonder if its just my wishful thinking. How can I communicate with her, or should I." Tigerlily

More than likely they all related to the presence of the ashes of the ex-wife who committed suicide. This act may have physically and/or spiritually bound her to this plane. The physical attachment would come from the pain she was going through in her life and the pain of thinking of the suicidal act as well as carrying out the act. Also, issues left unresolved in her mind may bind her physically to this realm, as well. On the spiritual side, depending upon the spiritual path she followed, may have left her spirit in a difficult situation. She either doesn't want to move on because she knows what awaits her there, or she has no higher place open to her.

Not to be judgmental towards anyone who has committed the act of suicide, I've even contemplated it a few times in my life; the act carries a price. That's why I wish more would understand the concept of walk-ins, which I'll cover in next week's Metaphysical Musings.

As to bringing peace to the house, I would advise getting your house blessed and cleansed and find a good local psychic to hold a séance there to address the emotional issues of the suicidal woman.

You're not alone; I have received many emails from people concerning the sense of doom or great changes. I do think that we are in for the next 12 months, at least, of some turmoil with Mother Nature as well as some kind of blowup in the Middle East this summer and the economic crisis worsens. But then, I get a sense that we'll enter a period of stability and improvement, so we all need to be saying our prayers, thinking good thoughts, and help heal Mother Earth.

6 "what is the significance of chanting 108 times?" Anne

The number108 carries much physical or spiritual power. In the Jewish tradition if you repeat something 108 times you'll never forget it. Malas, (Buddhist rosaries), contain 108 beads, and each time you complete a round you accumulate good merit. In numerology if you add 1 + 8 you get 9, which is the number of God, and the 0 would be symbolic of God being bound to the individual's request. So if you repeat a prayer, affirmation or spiritual command 108 times in your mind, you accept it, you send it to God, He's heard it and the divine forces begin to work to manifest that command. Also, it helps build up mind training for you just can't say a prayer mindlessly, you have to hold an image in your mind and that image needs to stay in your mind well past the chanting stage, hence if you can keep that image 108 times in your head, that image remains just as well. There are some people who'll take spiritual commands and say it not only 108 times, but 108,000 times, etc.
