Whats the diference between a lab technician and lab assistant? I am looking for entry level job in this field.

I have a degree in biology and biochemistry. I just graduated an have been looking for jobs online but I am not sure what post should I be looking for. What posts should be looking for? I want to work in hospitals or clinics or labs or phamaceutical companies. I need some suggestions from experienced people please.

Look for Lab Assistant position..you'll find one..
The pay rate will be around $15-$16/hr ,since you did a very hard job in college for 4 years.
The more work in college, less you get paid.

In order to work in hospitals, you need a  license. If you have job experience then look in some biotech company or just check the University  employment web site. Just look for lab technician and research associate.

EutaKeti,Which city and state do you live in?????Research Tech is what most Bachelor holders qualify for. Research Tech has different levels likeRT I, II, III. It depends on your work experience to which level you qualify for. For example,if you are a fresh out of college Bachelor Degree holder without any out of college experience,you qualify for the RT I position. After you work in RT I for about a year or even less than ayear, you will qualify for RT II level, and further experience qualifies you to RT III. Research Associate is a position higher than RT. RA is atleast Master with some experience. RAs havehuge research responsibilities and carry out many experiments in lab that would require a well-trained person to do so. After RA comes, Post Doc position, which only PhD holdersqualify for. The definiton of the RT and RA above is a standard defition for these two positions used inLife Science/Science Research Field. However, each position definition may change dependingon the employer and some employers do not care much about what level or what position are you.As long as you meet their basic requirements or if you convince them that you are ableto do what they expect from you, you are good to go. Like ss47k has suggested above, many hospitals ask for license although a few may not ask. It will be probably easy and fast for you to apply in Research Facilities (both Hospital researchcenters and Educational/Instutional/Independent/Private Research Centers) or at companies, which involve Chemistry and Biology like Food Manufacturing COmpanies, Beverage Companies, Cosmetics, Pharmaceuticals and so other companies.You can also apply jobs through recruiters; infact it will be easy to land jobs if you go throughrecruites. Some of the good Scientific Recruiters are:Kelly ScientificAdecco TechnicalsOn Assignment Lab SupportK Force ScientificAerotek ScientificMan Power Professionalsor google "Scientific Recruiters" in your area and you get some more results. Fitst of all thank you bery much for such a wonderful information regarding my query. I am freshly out of college with about 2 years ofresearch expereince. By recruiters what exactly do you mean? Are they the ones which hir you for th job or are they the one who will hook you up with the companies that need people to work for? I am in wichita right now an I am ready to relocate. EK,It is good that you have some research experience. Is this experience on-campus or off-campus??Either way, it is good for you and will help you find jobs fast, although off-college in better.Anyways, these recruiters are government licensed firms that match qualified applicantswith employers. And you are right, they will "hook" you with employers. The reason that goingthrough them is better (for fresh graduates with little or no experience) is because they havecontacts with a lot of companies and are aware of jobs at different places. Most of the positionsthey offer are like "contract to hire", which means you start with a company as a contractor(meaning you will start not as an employee of the company but an employee of the recruiter). After few months, usually three months (and ofcourse it depends on the company), the company will hireyou and make their employee; at this point, you will no longer be the recruiter's employee.Companies do this because, -you are fresh out of college with little or no experience and they are not sure if youhave qualified skills to work with them. They will evaluate you for some period of timeand if they find you good, they will make you their employee and keep you providingall company benefits. As a contractor you will not have company benefits and will onlyhave recruiters' benefits, which are not as good as company beenfits. -companies will not have the headache of checking your criminal background check, drug screening,check your Employment Status, degree etc-company do not have to worry abt providing any of their benefits to their contractors, whomay or may not continue working with them for a long period of time.Therefore, it would be better to go through recruiters.
