Cricket Europe comments::

That was a truly extraordinary hour's cricket. Alam bowled straight and true, and the Mozambican batsmen had no answer to his control. A superb effort!

And Mahaboob Alam has taken all ten wickets! His teammates are chairing him from the ground.

I think it is a world record for Limited Overs cricket. I don't think anyone has ever taken 10 wickets in Limited Overs match.

Can anyone verify this?

I know 3 bowlers have taken all 10 wickets in an innings in Test match including Anil Kumble ,,, but cannot remember if anyone has taken that in limited over matches.

Does this match count as List A match or not??
It would definately be a sort of record.

It will count at a List A match since 2 international sides are involved.

In test cricket only 2 players have taken 10 wickets in an innings. In a first class match, there are couple more, the latest one being Ottis Gibson in some county match in England last year.

I think we will know about the record from cricinfo news website very soon.

All ten wickets for Nepal's Mahaboob Alam

25 May 2008

Nepal’s left-arm seamer Mahaboob Alam produced an extraordinary performance at Grainville on Sunday, taking all ten wickets at a cost of 12 runs as Mozambique were bowled out for 19 in 14.5 overs.

Alam was on a hat-trick three times in the course of his 7.5 overs, and finished off the innings with four wickets – three of them bowled – in six balls.

He bowled straight and full throughout his spell, and four of his victims were out leg-before.

Remarkably, in the first attempt to play the match on Saturday, in which Mozambique had been bowled out for 70 before the rain descended, Alam had contributed a wicketless five-over spell as Binod Das and Basant Regmi each collected five-wicket hauls.

But on Sunday he was not to be denied, and the Mozambicans had no answer to his mastery of line and length.

Mozambique were chasing a Nepalese total of 238 for seven, which represented a good recovery after they had been 30 for three at one stage. Imtiyaz Lili picked up two wickets and Aasif Koliya one, but then Shakti Gauchan and Gyanendra Malla restored the innings with a fourth-wicket stand of 73.

Gauchan went for 34, but Malla continued in partnership with Paras Khadka, adding 80 for the fifth wicket.

Khadka was the next to go, after making 44 off 50 balls with two fours and a six, and Malla was finally out for 71, made from 101 balls with four boundaries.

Alam and Basant Regmi pushed the total up to 234, and it had reached 238 by the close.

Koliya was the most successful of the Nepalese bowlers with three for 49.

The Nepalese total always seemed likely to be too much for Mozambique, but nobody could have reckoned with Alam’s unbelievable achievement. There wasn’t too much doubt about who would win the Man of the Match award.

TY amazing.   Nepal completed the formality of winning today. But what's impressive is how we won. But we should remember we have probably stronger opponent USA in the same group. They won by ten wickets against a comparatively  strong team of Norway. Nepal vs USA on 28th of May. What a game that would be.

Monday 26 May

USA v Vanuatu (Grainville)
Nepal v Norway (Farmers Field)
Germany v Mozambique (Victoria College)

Tuesday 27 May

USA v Germany (Grainville)
Nepal v Vanuatu (Victoria College)
Norway v Mozambique (Les Quennevais 1)

Wednesday 28 May
USA v Nepal (Les Quennevais 1)
Norway v Germany (Les Quennevais 2)
Vanuatu v Mozambique (FB Fields)

World Cricket League Division Five 2nd round

Alam secures the perfect ten

Cricinfo staff

Mahaboob Alam completes his ten-wicket haul © ICC

Nepal's left-arm seamer Mahaboob Alam produced an extraordinary performance in on the third day of the ICC World Cricket League Division 5, taking all ten wickets against Mozambique.

Alam was on a hat-trick three times in the course of his 7.5 overs, and finished off the innings with four wickets - three of them bowled - in six balls as Nepal blew away Mozambique for 19 as they secured a 219-run win. In a dismal batting display, nine of the Mozambique batsmen were dismissed for 0, with five bowled, four lbw and one caught by Mahesh Chhetri.

"I never thought I would get 10 wickets. I managed to get the ball starting to swing for me and then I thought I was in with a chance of getting wickets" said 26-year-old Alam. "Once I got my eighth wicket, I thought I could get all 10 in the match. I did think the bowler at the end may get one or two wickets as he was getting the ball to skid on but fortunately for me he couldn't get a wicket. I am very happy.

"I really believe we have a chance in this event as everybody is performing. Our batting is coming good and we are in with a good chance of winning the tournament."

Nepal's captain Binod Kumar Das paid tribute to his bowler's amazing performance and admitted he had played in a game with Alam before when he was on the verge of getting ten wickets only for Das himself to take wickets at the other end to dash the hopes of his colleague.

"I am absolutely thrilled to bits as a guy taking ten wickets doesn't happen in cricket regularly and I'm absolutely delighted to be part of that as it was a remarkable performance by Mahaboob Alam. He deserves a lot of credit for that."
