ICC WCL Div 5.
Jersey
30/05/08

Nepal now enters the most important phase of the tournament after regular minnow bashing in the league rounds. Nepal will play much media hyped Afghanistan, who was thought to be the tournamnet favourite till they were soundly beaten by Singapore. Afghanistans place in the semis are courtesy of media hype, weather fortunes and mismanagement. Singapore deserved to be in semis after having such a great tournament.

Nepal is still unbeaten and group leader of their team. The team lead by two Ds' (Dias, the coach and Das, the captain) are still to be tested. Nepal have a decent performance against USA, the only team which challaned Nepal seriously but the score is still to be settled as weather didnot allowed USA to bat.

However, Nepals problem of batting is still unsolved. Gyanandra Malla is at prime form and Alam is helping with bat a lot but other major batsman have not yet clicked yet. Nepal have depth in batting, as Das and B Regmi are regular 8 & 9 numbers. Paresh Lohani and Shakti Gauchan havent performed a lot with bat and Shakti isnt contributing a lot with ball either. Given the way Alam is taking wickets and Das stopping the run flow, any team at this level would have major problem in scoring 200 against Nepal.

Lets hope, Nepal to reach the finals which will open the door to Division 4, which is one step closer to World Cup 2011. I hope to see five sub-continental team ( Ind, Pak, Sri, B'desh and Nepal) in the 2011 WC.

Best of Luck to both RHINOS and the TALIBANS.

- Gyanguru

so now three wicket-taking bowlers have their quota done.  I see that they sud have waited till the short change bowlers come on to bowl to take some risky shot. Alam got out to mid-wicket heave. That too after getting a life a ball before.... Hmmmm.

6 over to go.. I think they sud start playing their shots before the RR gets too high.

It is like go for it time. Otherwise it is too late.

As Binod is gone,i think we ain't winning.Although i do know that Rajkumar is capable of whacking some big ones.

With our standard of batting,we do not deserve to go to divison 4.Now...please sack the coach and drop Chettri/Alam for a few matches.

batsman suck a big time. Are there any batsman in   Nepali team.

Bowling doesnot always win matches, you have to bat as well and the fact is they can't bat. If they can;t bat against afganistan then guess what haapens when they paly against good team.

Nepali team doesnot deserve to win today, all batsmen suck, bowling is good and coach sucks.

Still yo man ta mero nepali ho. Wish my nepal would have won. always nepali.

.Too close yet too far!

It happens in cricket. This is what cricket is all about. Nepal just lost one match and they are out. I think we have lost to Afghan in a couple of times before this. They proved to be stronger than us today.

Journey to World Cup 2015 begins now! Hope we will have some more infrastructures back home. More games and some good mental training as well. It is too early to dream about playing world cup with such facilities we have in Nepal. Just see how Malaysia have organized U-19 world cup this year. They have everything in there when we talk about infrastructures and they still can't dream of playing world cup. Probably we were trying something impossible! But again why stop dreaming! Let's dream for another world cup! :D

It was really nice watching them winning other countries. Great week it was so far! :-)

All the best next time! As always! :D

Roy Dias should be sacked because:

-He's been with the team for too long,i guess over SIX years.Unheard shiate.

-He's an old school cricketer.I remember ,maybe it was Aamir Akhtar on the nets...who was timing the ball sweetly and playing VERY powerful drives. He comes over to Akhtar and yells at him for not playing with a STRAIGHT bat.His vision of his team is that his batsmaen should bat like Dravid. Now Aamir was not a kid and remodelling his batting at that age was almost impossible.

-Like i said before, his philosophy is "Stay at the crease..runs come itself"

-In the subcontinent, more or less you don't question the authority of your coach.I bet Binod and others  can't look Dias straight in the eyes and tell him what they want and how they think it should be.One..we are too submissive people and the other reason is "Chaplusi" works in the subcontinent with a coach from the same region.

And most importantly...six freaking years with the same ppl.He must have run out of ideas.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.....excuse me laughing friends, but i had this premonition (i know it's an inauspicious one tara ke garne) since yesterday that this was coming. i mean, we all know our limitations, don' t we? we know how we bat and that too under pressure phew!. it's a different ball game altogether if you ask me. even good world-class teams choke under pressure (South Africa, India to name few) and we are still a relatively younger (inexperienced) team than many in international podium.

one thing though, and this was on my mind since the moment i saw the tie sheet for this tournament: since these are all qualifying matches and we have only handful of teams, it would have been fairer for the teams consistently playing well if there was just the round robin instead of the knock-out (semis). i mean when just the top two are going to be qualified in the next round, the semis automatically become painfully and humongously important (in fact like the final) and the actual final just formality. that's kinda ridiculous. i wished if they had super 4 (round robin or sth) where everyone plays with every other team and the top 2 are qualified.

now look at nepal. it's a classic example of the discrepancy in the format of this tournament. nepal were unbeaten until yesterday and with a long busy schedule where they had to play a match every day, apart from playing well, consistency in winning depended on several other factors like physical and mental wear and tear. and against those odds we were performing well (in fact winning them all fairly easily) when even a loss or two wouldn't have been that much detrimental, but now when we were placed in the all-important knock out, we failed to perform and the result --- we're OUT, not only out from this tournament but all hopes we harbored for playing in the 2011 WC are shattered.

And look at afghanistan's stats (look at their individual performances in the tournament), it clearly shows that they are inferior to nepal, but having played better than nepal in the one match which happens to be the darn semi, they're in.

how good it is for the ICC world cup itself? they want a  team which play consistently well or someone which has high peaks and troughs in its performance curve? what's the reason of all these qualifiers in the first place when better teams can still end up not getting qualified???

i am by no means defending ourselves for today's performance though. neither i am whining. just expressed what i thought about this tournament.

whatever it is, there's no denying that we sucked big time today. while i understand the pressure of the knock out stage and all, it was just the damn afghanistan  and a goddamn division 5 tournament for heaven's sake losers!!!

I am absolutely shattered.
I didnot dremat of Nepali boys making it into the WC 20011 but definately thought of going through the all these Divisions. I was really expectant of this.
Fans like me will definately call it as a BLACK DAY in Nepali cricket history.
Batting have failed always, we couldnot even make 142. We are sufferring a lot from Dias' old school cricket.

I cant wish any more luck for Nepali cricket team.
This match has shown our reality, and reality is always bitter.

Nepal khate. We don't have players to score 3 runs an over. No we don't lost by getting all out.  I am sorry to say we played about 45 overs. That should be good enough to score well over 180 runs.

Its high time Nepali players start to play lots of 20-20 tournament. May be that will increase their innovativeness and quick scoring ability in big matches.
