I have been asked to buy a cell phone for use in Nepal. I understand only certain types/specifications can be used as pre-paid mobile phones there. Does anyone here know what criteria I should look for?

Locked phones are lot cheaper than unlocked ones. Get a locked phone with GMS/Quadband capability. Then when u get 2 ktm goto bishal bazar. On the 2nd or 3rd floor there is a cell phone repair shop. They will unlock it for you for about $10-$20 bucks. Tell em KillEmAll sent you and they will do it for $10-$20 bucks. :p
