You already know, I assume, that there are tons of Nepalese students at North Lake College (NLC) and in Irving. There is nothing to be nervous or worried about transfering to NLC and moving in to Irving. Irving is a diverse city with inexpensive living expenditure. If you know anyone who might help you rent an appartment and find you a job, that would be great. Hope you have someone who would be willing to help you out find an appartment. There is a Nepali Store in Irving, Unique Mart, very closely linked with the Nepalese community here in TX; you can expect help from there should you need any. To get their contact information, google Unique Mart. There are 2 Nepalese restaurants and a lot of job oppurtunities in and around Irving. However, you do need a car as the public transportation is very poor and does not cover all of Irving and neighboring cities where you might have to go for work.

PLS post in this thread what kind of help you expect from people other than the ones you know.

Good Luck to you.

Plum, I have a cousin's cousin who will be arriving in the the DFW area around the first week of August from Kathmandu for Graduate studies at UT Arlington. He will also be looking for a room-mate to share an apartment with. Just let me know, when you plan to arrive in Dallas!!

As HappyFace already pointed out, you will be needing a vehicle to make maximum use of the opportunities available in the Metroplex. The transfer process to NLC should not be a problem.

yeah! trouble and stress is one thing every one faces once they leave their country, but, it doesnt mean you shouldn't take chances..!!
i plan to do the same thing.. n prolly in the situation as you are facing..!!
the first thing is .. just decide what you actually plan to do, if you plan to shift to NLC lemme know. i guess its high time you make a decision already!! college deadline is around the bend.

just be cool.. as in (responsibly cool).. ! there's always a way out..

well!! im as new to the place as you are.. that is why i asked and got suggestions from happy face and sahayog.
im pretty sure..it all depends on oneself. will there be work or not.. ? its hard to say coz i believe it just depends on you. forget what other people say.. (its hard to get work and stuff) .. all i can say is.. if you made a plan to go to NLC .. GO FOR IT! that is exactly what im doing.

friends are necessary but i guess in the end its just gonna be you..! so dont fret and remember.. when the going gets tough...tough gets going..!!

 all the very best.

Plum and Guru91 and all sajhaites

Irving is not a bad place. You would in fact enjoy the company of fellow nepalis. only thing bad about being here is...hami aafu aafu ma compete garnu parchha kam ko lagi....meaning not back stabbing or anything but if one gets it there is a slim chance for the other...tara kei chhaina kam ta dhilo chado painchha...i remained berojgar for quite a long time but mero pahlo kam maile www.eknazar.com bata payeko thiye and that was just a stepping stone if you do not have anyone to find a work for you......public transport bata manage garna dherai garo chha....i in fact frequently use DART but you need to have a lot of patience and run in their schedule coz it doesnot run in our schedule.....and it doesnot go in all major places. College jana aauna ta kei problem hudaina if you live close to a bus stop .......room mates haru ko barema ma ta tha chhaina coz i have a limited contacts and dont know anything about it at the moment......but i am sure sajhaites would help you in that as well......best regards and good luck for your future endevours..

MUNDRE

Plum,

The person I was talking about is confirmed to arrive in Dallas on August 8th. So, if you have not found a roomate yet,  is it still a possibilty that we could have you guys share an Apartment? Expect an e-mail.
