Kidney missing after surgery

BY SARASWATI KARKI

MORANG, Aug 6 - One Anita Gautam (Bhattarai), 22, of Chanuwa-2 of Dhankuta has mysteriously lost one of her kidneys.

Anita, who had been suffering long from womb related problems, underwent surgery of her abdomen and womb at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS) some eight months ago.

Her earlier medical reports, that of the capital-based Om Nursing Home and Research Center and Ananda Clinic at Biratnagar, clearly state that she had her kidneys intact.

However, present BPKIHS report claims one of her kidneys is missing.

Anita was admitted at BPKIHS some eight months ago when she had a terrible stomachache.

"At first, doctors informed her she had to undergo intestinal surgery ," said her father Durga Prasad Bhattarai, adding, "But she underwent surgery of her cervix too."

Durga Prasad said it was a blunder on the part of BPKIHS and demanded justice at  a press meet on Tuesday.

However, Dr Durba Upreti who was involvement in her treatment, refuted the allegation and claimed he he had done nothing wrong during the operation.
