Hi sajha users, I am planning to call my parents for my graduation in december 2008. Once they get the visa can they come at any time within that 5 years period or do they have to come in the graduation time. How early they can apply for the visa for december graduation? Can they come in October 2008 or not? I was wondering if they can apply for visa and get it approved and come back later? Is it possible? I am waiting for your valuable response and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

After your parents got visa and for 5 years they can come at any time within 5 years according to our common sense. But you know when I call my parent for my graduation and when he was in the Port of Entry and when they scanned the passport, the guy over there told him that so you are in the graduation of Mr. chintamani on May 9th. So my parent was amazed that they had that information. So if you are asking your parents to come later and not in your graduation then they should have very good reason why they are coming late and not in the graduation.

You could just send an invitation letter from the college (from the international office)

If you have good relation with some professors then you could ask them to write a letter saying they would be pleased to meet the parents of my student. This is OPTIONAl though.

Also If you had already found job before you graduate then you can send your offer letter specifying the salary amount. Doing so your parents donot have to bother about the Bank balance in Nepal too much.

And you could apply 2-3 month earlier.

Good luck.

ChintaMani

Couple of days ago i had a talk with my international advisor, according to him it's not wise to send the CPT information ..Of course they have access to our I20 but he strongly advised me not to send any kind of CPT information including Offer Letter and the Pay Stubs..

This is the information i have ..I am also planning to invite my mother during my graduation and i am doing CPT right now and will be graduating in DEC 2008..

Its according to your wish whether you want to send the offer letter or salary's amount or not. Those who had sent the offer letter from here, their parents didnot shown bank balance over there and they were here also. Its all according to your wish. I had just said what may be the options.

My graduation is in december 2008 but my parents are insisting  me to come in october so they can celebrate dashain here with me. So, can I call them in october though my graduation is in december. So I am confused whether to make them apply on tourist visa on october or make them wait till december to apply through graduation letter. Please advise me. They are willing to come in october so that they can celebrate dashain here. your help and suggestions would be highly appreciated. thanks.

Ohio,

you definitely can invite them for October even if you are graduating in December. They can say that they are going to be in the US for a couple of months to spend with their son including attending to convocation ceremony.

I heard that if you received a multiple entry visitor visa for 5 years, you have to come to the US within 6 months of getting the visa. Then you can come and go whenever you want wtihin 5 yrs period. I have not validated this 6 months requirement though. I know one of my relatives came after the graduation on a visa that was obtained to visit the US for son's graduation. They came within the 6 months after getting a visa; however, after the son's graduation ceremony.

I hope this helps.
