MISSOURI CITY - Police said robbery was the motive in the slaying of a convenience store clerk found shot Sunday.

The body of Ashok Bhattarai,  21, of Houston, was found about 10:10 p.m. on the floor of the 1st Food Stop in the 2500 block of Cartwright, said Missouri City police Capt. Saul Salinas.

Salinas said the killer, who was wearing a mask, opened the front door of the store, stepped in and fired a rifle at Bhattarai. The assailant then walked behind the counter and took about $5,000 from a safe.

Another employee was in the rear of the store and did not hear the shot. A customer found the body and called police, Salinas said.

Detectives are analyzing surveillance video and hope to release a photograph and description of the robber later, Salinas said.

We all will miss him as a Nepali dude. May his soul rest in peace and his family get strength to face the sad moments.
