This Video is dedicated for those people who hate this world where there is chaos, jealousy, hatred, crime, selfishness etc....

Christopher Johnson McCandless AKA Alexander Supertramp was an brilliant student who graduated from Emory University in History. After Graduation he burnt his all identity including his S.S Card, donated his $24,000 life savings to Charity Oxfam International and went to the journey towards Mexico, U.S and Canada to get rid from this society. He believed that money and material objects just caused trouble and bound in the society. His adventure lead him to many places, met many amazing people and he changed the lives of the people he met. His main goal was to lead the life and adventure he dreamed of But unfortunately his dream lead him to his death... Its really worthy guys and gals. So plz read it or watch it.

I like the song too. I have not yet seen the movie. I guess the movie is also good, but I don't think what the guy did was right. Running away from life is not Heroism but Cowardness..........

"Into the wild".

Reading it and watching it, I must say, reading  the frustration that lingers amongst our minds, was more candid than the silver screen version of a  saga of a youth rebellion against the hypocritical society.A well made movie nonetheless!

How far can one go against it? How far  can one  go to achieve his/her dream? Do one have to do what Chris did, in search of peace of mind?  The answer , perhaps lies within ourselves. Chris thought it was a right thing to do. A life wasted,  "following one's dreams", is worth more  a life than the compromises we make during the course. RIP Chris! You were a "man" enough to confront your challenges, even if it meant "death", following your instincts!

Here is one more soundtrack from the same movie.

Thanks to niloakas, amritraja and aloof for the comments... and i agree with u guys too..niloakash seriously even when i watch the movie i also started having the same dream and living the same life as christopher did but later i again think that this is really valuable life and i am so lucky enough to get this life as human being so rather than fighting with the challenges wil it be gud enough to run from that??Than i decided that no its just a movie but in reality may be chris did like that but I am not native american and if i did the same thing like burning my S.S Card and i wil be deported back to Nepal in just few months so i dont think it wud be wise decision..but stil would say his life is so iintresting and movie is wonderfull...one of the gr88 movie i wud say...

Sometime i do feel like it you know, just get a one way ticket to Kathmandu and go right now. Even more go to my village and teach in a school or farm potatoes, be a shepard. A lot of times i do wonder where is the essence and quality of our life when we just run around following this society and always struggle.

I would not go far as to be broke and move around, but i am planning for a long motorcycle tour out somewhere like CHE "Before i get married!!!".

You are right poon-hill, rather than struggling far from our country dont u think its better to stay at ur own village and walk on those damage road, rather than driving 1998 Honda or Toyota Corolla , isnt it better to ride on micro bus, rather than eating sandwich and burger isnt the dal bhat and gundruk ko achar tastes better...this is the time when i feel myself very unlucky that i m not getting time to enjoy all those memorable times...

boulevard dreams , no offense but your contradictory statements prove/reveal nothing but your confusion and/or frustration about your life.
Doesn't your quest for 'own village','Dal, bhaat..'... contradict with the 'Title/gist' of the thread? Aren't they (food, the lifestyle,..) all about your society/culture?

Nothing can compare to this man's adventure.Unlike Hippies hitchhiking across the globe as a form of entertainment labeling themselves as "adventurer", Richard Proenneke lived in remote Alaskan wilderness all by himself for 35 years deep in the wood. He was 50 (that's old )when he walked away from the modern civilization. Being a skilled carpenter, he survived frigid winter with skills that you would never think of. Most importantly,he documented everything of his life on film that were donated to him. There are even books available now and the clips of his film are often shown at PBS. No Hollywood shit. Pure adventure captured on the guy himself.

Since you've asked for my opinion on 'Christopher J McCandless' philosophy and the way of living, personally I don't prefer that kind of life  because I believe in my identity, responsibility, love and other social aspects, which are not possible in isolation. But I am not saying he was right or wrong either.
The meaning of life or lets say the reason for living is pretty much a subjective term that entirely depends upon a person's perception.
And regarding the correlation between money/wealth and trouble,  I do agree with the Christopher to some extent. But running away itself is not the solution. Had every people thought and acted like him, we would be just another creature roaming with burden to live meaningless life.

Also no SAJHA, no 'INTO THE WILD', nothing at all :)

intrepid i didnt ask about your judgement. i asked about your viewpoints and which you have described perfectly. thank u very much and i absolutely agree with u intrepid... I did like the idea of Christopher J McCandless but talking about me i am not that kind of person who can live in such way. I need friends, family, social life, sajha, msn blah blah blah....but yes when it comes to the money and wealth i agree with him too.. bcoz, i dont know whether you are abroad or not but talking about me yes i am and you know why i m here?? My aim for my life is the main reason  but my parents prestige in the society is another reason which bring me here.. they think that all the kids of the society are abroad and i was the one staying earning couple of thousands of dollars..Society haha screw the people of that society who r busy all the time to pull our leg....U know what??if i was not here than i wud be the most unreliable guy in the society...So whats the value of such kind of society???

boulevard dreams, my apology if I offended your sentiments in anyway. What I was trying to say is the life Chrishtopher strove for is one extreme case and the life of people who always chase money is another.  And I prefer to have a normal life somewhere in between these two extremities.  I guess, you too, but with differences of inclination and/or direction.

Anyways, have a wonderful weekend.

Richard Proenneke 1917-2003

To live in a pristine land ... to roam the wilderness ... to choose a site, cut trees, and build a home ... Thousands have had such dreams, but Richard Proenneke lived them. Here is a tribute to a man in tune with his surroundings who carved his masterpiece out of the beyond.

In 1968 at the age of 51 Richard (Dick) Proenneke constructed a log cabin at Upper Twin Lakes and lived there alone for almost 30 years.  In 1980, Twin Lakes became part of the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, and Dick became a volunteer backcountry interpreter and naturalist. A diesel mechanic by trade, decades of living in wilderness would transform Dick into what some might call a landscape ecologist.

A keen observer and meticulous recorder, Dick was fascinated by weather  phenomena, annual phenological events, cyclic natural fluctuations in animal abundance, and plant-animal interactions. Inquisitive and deliberate, he not only observed and recorded but also asked the question, “Why?”.

A wolverine carcass found in spring at the head of a valley would be systematically probed for weeks. What was its sex and age? Was there evidence of emaciation or broken bones? Was the carcass in an avalanche zone? In A Sand County Almanac Aldo Leopold wrote: “Keeping records enhances the pleasure of the search, and the chance of finding order and meaning in these events.” At Twin Lakes, Dick found order and meaning by recording natural events. He began recording his observations and measurements in 1968 and continued to do so until 1995, the last full year he spent at Twin Lakes.

He wrote most of his notes on wall calendars, the type that rural Iowa hardware stores give to loyal customers at the start of the new year. Entries included dates of lake freeze-up; lake ice break-up; den entry and den emergence by brown bears; first calving by moose; first lambing by Dall sheep; and nest initiation by Gray Jays. Dick also recorded daily high and low air temperatures; monthly winter snow pack and lake ice thickness; and random events such as severe storms, earthquakes, and landslides. Dick had a special interest in wolves and annually recorded winter pack size, number of kills, and composition of kills.

Sustained and simple like the monitoring program we aspire to build, Dick’s calendars and journals are among the longest continuous data sets for any Alaska National Park. Trends in the duration of lake ice cover on Upper Twin Lake plotted from Dick’s records (1969-95) parallel those of other Northern Hemisphere sites and provide evidence that freshwater ecosystems are responding to a warming climate.

Dick’s love for wilderness, passion for observing and understanding the natural world around him, and his dedication to keeping records are an inspiration to all of us as we develop and implement long-term monitoring in the Southwest Alaska Network.
