my OPT expires on jan 6th. my advisor told me i have 2 months grace period. but the problem is that my grad program start from june only. The rule is that u have to get enrolled within 5 months after ur OPT expires. i will be sort one month. can i join kaplan. how long is the kaplan course? can i do it twice? i need some information about joining kaplan too.

I think you'll be out of status as soon as you Grace period ends.....U will not get 5 months after OPT to get enrolled in college....You'll have to do that before ur OPT expires. If not then u are automatically Out of Status. Join Kaplan or join some college till May and then transfer to the program u wanted. or Extend OPT if you are from science background. One of my friend got his OPT extended without E-verify of his employer.

you must list the employer's E-Verify Company Identification Number or a valid E-Verify Client Company Identification Number in Item 17 of the Form I-765.

anugaman, i also think that if you can get your I 20 before your grace period ends, you will have 5 months (?) time to join the college.  i would suggest to contact your international student office though.  suppose your grace period ends on Jan 6, you have have to have I 20 before that day and you can join school anytime before june 6.  if your class starts after that day, you have to make adjustment by taking kaplan or some classes on community college in spring semester. 

1. Jan 6th --->OPT expires

2. March 6th--->2 months Grace Period ends

3. June 1st---->Grad Program starts

4. Gap months = March 7th to May 30th =3 months

Now.....

1. If possible get the I-20 from grad college before Jan 6th for June Start class otherwise before March 6th. If you do this then you will continue your status of F1. No need to do anything.

2. If option 1 is not possible then get I-20 from Kaplan before March 6th. Kaplan provides lots of courses but it issue I 20 only for some specific courses only. Different Center has different course offer. Some center will have 4 months course so they will issue 4 months I 20 but some will have only 2 months courses so will issue 2 months I 20 (which is extendable).

OPT  can be extended without E-verify...........E-verify bhanne Natak matra ho, as long as u are from STEM category....Maile chineko manche le paisakyo.

After your OPT expires, you will get 60 days grace period and within that period you MUST get an I-20 or acceptance letter from your perspective institutions and after that you will get 5-months period to start your sessions/semester/class..........

After that, you'll be Illegal. LOL.
