ya its true, no public functions, no gathering, baiscally here is a culture of groupism. They perform only 2 parties in whole year. 1st New Year Party, 2nd and last Dashain Party. Lol. They work their ass off whole time. Money matters. I live around Sheridan Rd and Bryn Mawr where most of the nepalese live. I can feel it better. Whenever they are free or off they feel like ह्या  आज काम मा गएको भये बरु पैसा कमाइन्थ्यो होला  Let me know if there is any such group who do/does hangouts on weekends.

I have been in chicago for last 2 years, and I havenot heard anything except last years TWO dashain party's.  Basically there is no unity in chicago Nepalese people. And most of them over here are the people who have low incomes, so they have to work their ass off on weekends too. Have been to the party's where thereare some good income holder and good people.

i think chicago lags all these gatherings because there are so many nepalese around here, and its quite impossible to make everyone possible to join. So there is internal community among the friends over here who organise small bthday parties to outdoor parties and its limited to the closed ones only.

This new year, I m planning to be with my frens in Navy Pier to view the Fireworks. Hope to see some of the guys over there.

Hmmm... if you think the Nepali community in Chicago sucks, you have 3 options:

1. You could leave Chicago.
2. You could initiate something yourself.  Hold a party at your place.  Invite people.  Form a community.
3. Put up and shut up.

With all due respect, I don't like the tone of you referring to hard working Nepali people as "low-incomes".  So what if they are doing menial work, 7 days a week, double shifts every day.  I find that quite admirable.  I would not be able to do it.  Plus, chances are, those so called "low income" people probably have more money saved up than those "good income holders and good people."

hold on now... lets not make this an outrage among Neplese.. Last thread I posted was about a basketball game and same kinda thing happened and now again...same thing.

I do think that If I cant form a community or initiate sth , I really donot have to leave Chicago or put up with it. And believe me or not,I have met people in Chicago who over the years have 2 annual functions and talk about how nepalese in US can help with infrastructure development in Nepal, specifically building a train system that covers whole Nepal. Another time ,the topic for ,about 2 hour long conversation was if neplese like or dislike Mr Donald Trump.

I have no reasons to lookdown on Nepalese with odd jobs..every body has to start somewhere. Neither Do I have any good feelings for people with good jobs because its not a big deal  nth to be proud of,after all ,you are in the most developed country in the whole f..ing world

My PRIMARY motive of starting this thread is to find people who whould meet for a game of basketball or a round of drinks or sth...no big talks no big plans just few hours of  fun....

"nagios" looks like a total loser to me...
And "live your life"...if you dont like  Nepali society  then bud , why are you in Sajha?
I mean...come on ..how come total retards like these even get a Visa to come to this country?
I have been living and loving this city place since last 13 years. If you ask me, we have plenty of gatherings. If you want more then Organise it...  Don't be  expecting  for somebody to spoon feed you.
And stop this nonsense about you being elite  and other nepalese  in Chi town  low income crap.  Ok how much do you make? what kinda job do you have? How long have  you been here?  I bet i can  bitch slap you on all those categories.

Chicago: The Windy City!!
Every morning I wake up in the winter, I feel desolate and forlorn to see the ever-depressing weather, and withered trees and deposits and blankets of snow scattered along the erstwhile green patches and parks and, of course, the lake itself.
Well, the Nepalese community is not bad at all. Now I resent to the poster (Nagios), who said of low-income people. And I do admire the fact that you have been to parties with good income holders and whatnot.

This is just for you, Nagios, my new friend!
I have been living in Chicago for the last 10 years, and I am still proud to say that I came here with 10 dollars in my pocket. 10 dollars and 10 years later, I still fall in the low-income working the weekends group. But I guess, it would be too much for you to understand that I do not work weekends because of my responsibilities. I hate it when I have to work weekends, but then, I am not at the luxury of making my own schedule.
Now, I am sure you are a well groomed and well educated person with a good job (high income) who relaxes the weekends watching ball game to barbecue or stuff you would do when you have time and money to burn. But I am amazed to your shrunk and biased opinion about me and my brethrens ( the low-income/weekend working class). How could you possibly think that low income holders and weekend workers donot have a life or, at least enjoy it?
About gatherings and parties, you are absolutely right. There is a lacking of unity amongst the Nepalese in Chicago.
How it would not be, when a person or a group disgruntled at the point that the parties are held on Saturdays instead of Sundays, go and register their own organization and still hold their parties on Saturdays?
How it would not be when a group of Samaritans form an organization to help the displaced Bhutanese refugees and give a cold shoulder to DV emigres but the main page of the website says, we are formed for the new immigrants?
How it would not be when a person or a group of person draws a line between high income holder and low income holder, and puts aside the spirit of  gathering or any fesitivities?
Well, Nagios, my friend, you should seriously think of socializing more, and maybe 5 years down the line, you would be heard saying,"Hya m**i!! Nepali haru jaha gaye pani tyestai ho raichha!!"
Maybe you are an acquaintance, and even maybe we are very good friends, given that you have been here for the last 2 years, and I happen to know a lot of people, old and new, high income and low income, alike!!
So, no hard feelings! Its just that if not me, someone else would be irked and retort to your post with profanity laced bantering.
PS: To all those who are new to Chicago, I have a suggestion. Why don't you form an organization for newly-moved-to-Chicago? I am sure it will help you and us bring on the same platform. I am not dsicriminate about any such matters, and will be there as long as there is a party and hordes of hot chicks!! Amen to that!!
And, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY FELLOW CHICAGOANS (that sounded moronically obtuse) AND MY FELLOW COUNTRYMEN (this sounds more collective) AND TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE DRINKING RESPONISBLY (make sure, you rot the Z to A for nth times, should there be a stop).

As any other Major US cities like New York, Boston Chicago also has sizeable Nepali Community. There are students/professionals who went to/are going to Tier A schools like Kellogg Northwestern, University of Chicago; others who went to/are going to Tier B schools like IIT(Illinois Institute of Technology), UIC(University of Illinois at Chicago), Loyola etc; and yet other who went to/are going to community colleges like Oakton, Truman, Triton etc. To generalize that and put everything in the same basket and say "Chicago sucks" is at the least a naivete and at the best an intentional slander against all the hardworking Nepalese. Of course there are Nepalese who are over staying their visa, others who are only doing non professional jobs. But what wrong did they do? And what is wrong with falling into "low income" category? Its an income from hardwork after all, they did not cheat, they did not steal. Why look down upon them? That is at the least myopic and at the best Samsarian doctrine of "I am better than everybody else" attitude.

Whatever we do, wherever we live we are all Nepalese after all. We are so diunited in our own home country which is on the verge of disintegration. So, why not we learn from that and try to live together in this foreign land without the distinction and discrimination of higher income, lower income, DV people, non DV EB2 residents, students, non students etc etc etc. Why separate why not join? Why do we need CNFS and CNP for merely 3000 Nepalese in Chicago area? Why not combine the two, join hands and enjoy each other's company? Otherwise what will be left in this foreign land where more than 95% of people think you are either Indian, Hispanic, Chinese or filipino?

Happy New Year!

Chicagoan
