Ministers gifted with garbage

Kantipur Report
LALITPUR, Jan 21 - Frustrated with the streets
of capital piling up with garbage, tourism entrepreneurs on Wednesday handed
over garbage as gifts to the ministers.

They reached residents of some 19 ministers in Pulchowk and handed over the
garbage-gifts.

This was a symbolic protest against the mismanagement of garbage in the
capital, the tourism entrepreneurs said.

They said the failure in collecting the garbage of the capital for over two
weeks has directly affected tourism.

They also urged the government to immediately start the collection of garbage
piled at various religious sites including Hanuman Dhoka, Patan Durbar Square
and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.

If the government continues its negligence towards garbage management, it
might also affect the “tourism year” slated for 2011, they opined.

Garbage from the capital is disposed at Sisdole, a village in Nuwakot
district. However, it has been obstructed by the local residents of the dumping
site.
