Hey,

Has anybody had their relatives sending any documents or parcels via Hulak ( GPO ) in Nepal?

If yes, then how much did it cost and what's the estimated delivery time? I've had my brother send me goods in the past that cost around 1600 rupees but this time, it only cost him 400 and he was told that it should reach me in 4-5 days ( which is kinda hard to believe ).

I need your responses urgently because the documents are supposed to include my Passport and other important documents.

Thanks it Advance.

believe it...

you can send docs to us via registered mail(ext delivery time 7-15 days) or through express mail prob will cost around 400-700 rs(depending upon weight) and will reach US within a week..USPS will handle the international delivery and nepal ko hulak also gives u a tracking no..

hope it helps

you can send your documents through a service called EMS (express mailing service) offered by hulak. nepali ma droot daak sewa bhan6a. its affordable and easy. you can do it from any regional post offices. if u r in ktm then GPO of Sundhara will do it. you will also get tracking code. and its true USPS will handle the package in US.

Appreciate the responses fellows.

Thing is, I've had my parents send me some stuffs on previous occasions via Hulak too but they said that it cost them around 2100 rupees or so. This time however, my brother went to the hulak and sent it for 400 rs. That's not the problem. I'm wary of the fact that the mail belonged to a category where tracking number isn't given. In other words, the mail is a registered one ( Nepali style ) but doesn't have a tracking number. I need the docs by the end of the month and more importantly, I'm worried about it being lost or stolen . Thats all. Not being able to know the whereabouts of my documents since there's no availability of tracking number is more than likely to get one anxious, isn't it?

Don't worry,
Your will get the mail in time..But there is always a chance that it might get lost, USPS lost my packet couple of weeks ago..There is a probablity, but it's slim.

Peace

Let me share my experience with EMS

Express Mail Service is service offered by GPO, Nepal. When i had to send the documents, the rate was about 1200 flat (or little over 1000) for good up to 500 grams (or 1kg) and additional 350 per 500gm count. ie. 1550 for 1kg (or 1.5 kg). They give you a tracking number and USPS delivers you at place. They might even send you a delivery confirmation SMS after it has been delivered, which i received 2 days after I knew from the person who was supposed to receive it.

Now based on what others have posted, it is hard for me to believe that in about 400-500. But i once heard that one of my friends' dad managed to send the documents real cheap using EMS. The person at the post office proceeded as if the letter was ordinary (not express) and threw in the lot assigned for priority (or Express) ones. The letter was delivered as 'Express' for cheaper cost.

May be your brother might have done something like that.. But I think and wish the document be delivered to you safely.

Hope for the best

Unbelievably, I just checked the status of the documents using the registered number ( apparently the number was only valid after the document reached the U.S., it appears ), and found out that it was delivered today!

I've been sweating over the past 2 weeks as the package included my passport, citizenship, and several other important documents.

Would've never guessed that I'd receive a package sent from Nepal within 2 weeks, after the postage cost incurred was mere 450 NRS!!!
