More and more Nepalese emigrants who have gone to Muslim majority countries to work - for example, on the Arabian Peninsula - are abandoning their Hindu religion and embracing Islam in order to improve their economic and social situation.

According to figures from the Nepalese workers' union, in Qatar alone there have been about 2,000 cases of conversion, plus 4,000 in Saudi Arabia, the Arab emirates, and Malaysia.

Rita Tamang, who emigrated to Saudi Arabia two years ago from the Nepalese district of Dhulikhel, explains that "Muslims get privileges with better work and good pay. The workers from other religions are hardly trusted by private employers. So, I myself also adopted Islam, giving up Hinduism." It's the same story for Manoj Karki, who left Kathmandu to go to work on an oil rig in Qatar. "I was hardly managing to save money from my salary, but since I have changed my religion to Islam, I am now more safe, comfortable, and with easy access to jobs." His wife, who works as a maid in Doha, followed her husband's example: "My husband converted to Islam and he advised me to do the same, so I did."

On the basis of numbers provided by the Nepalese workers' union, and under pressure from the complaints of immigrants and their relatives in Nepal, the foreign minister in Kathmandu has decided to take measures to stop the wave of conversions. Upendra Mahato says he has "instructed our diplomatic missions to probe the cases and stop such conversions if they come through pressure or by force."

According to estimates by the Nonresidential Nepalese Association, of the almost 7 million citizens of the Asian country who are working abroad, more than 400,000 are in the Gulf region. Of the 55 countries in which Nepalese immigrants are living, the most common destinations for those seeking work are Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, both Muslim majority countries.

By sending part of their earnings back home, emigrants represent one of the main sources of income for Nepal.

yeah what about this khairey missionary. Mostly they are attracting  poor people from villiage to their christian relegions by luring them with diferent things, showing dreams.

Hindu people are easy going they will change their relegious easily and these khairey are taking advanage of that . I dont know about outside valley. i have  read about that them. But i have seen live example in kathmandu. seen so many churches where tons of nepali people visist. i have seen them praying.  i have seen those people trying to convince others.  The number of mangolian (rai, magar, ) people are highest in accepting christianity(no offence ). May be poverty is one the reason. These people are gullible(Thats' what i think its only my percepttion. reality may be quite different).

what you guys think have your view.

thanks :)

this is what i call hypocrisy....if we nepalese come to US or Canada or anyother countreis....and apply for premanet residency and eventually citizinship...isnt that changing ones nationality....which we so proudly flourish every opportunity we get.....so if its ok with us to change our nationality ....wtf is so wrong in changing the religion......and what religion are we talking about...how many of you really follow ur religion....

so heck yes...if that makes ur life better...BE A MUSLIM.

that is the change i guess. we just don't like what we've and just run after .........
what a amazing point, if ONE can change the nationality why not RELIGION  ??
what i think is, i can still do what i was doing even if i change Nationality but i can't do many things what i was doing if i change religion.

and there is noway i can betray my mother, my country and my people.

BTW, what is better life??

betraying............well, if no problem there then go for it,  good for u, what i wrote was my personal opinion. i don't want to write much too.......

Ha ha Mr. Sulab U r 100% rite.

Its a real story that happened while i was working  in a gas station somewhere in Texas.

One day a little shorty guy entered into my store and asked if i could buy some christain stuffs like ring. I looked at the guy and asked his nationality. Then our convesastion started:\

Sabaiko Satru(SS): wher u from?

the guy: u tell me first wher u from?

SS: I am from Mexico. ( i thought that he dont know about Nepal)

The guy: I am also from mexico. and he laughssssss with  lil bit sigh in his face.

SS: Please tell me u dont look like mexican, R u from India?

The guy: Nop U tell me first wher u from? laughss  again with same style

SS:  I m actually from India.

The Guy: I am also from India.  laughs again

SS: So do u speak Hindi?

The guy; u speak first

SS: Lol, then i asked him " AAp india Se Hey?  ( Aafu lai Feri Hidi fittikai naaune)

The guY: Me India se hu

SS: But u look like Nepali.

The guy: U also look like Nepali.

SS: Ya  i m from Nepal.

The guy: Yes I m also from Nepal. then he laughs Khit khit khit khittttt

Then I asked him to talk to me in Nepali. Instead he asked me and I asked him his name in Nepali.

he replied in nepali.

THen I conformed that he is nepali too. Then our conversation started and he told me that  he had been to 10-12 countries thru missionary as a volunteer and originally he is from some remote area of the country.

So Sulab ji, these missionaries are taking advantage of these Sojha innocent nepali  and th guy look so innocent that i cant explain here.

Mattr of fact, isn't it a surprise to see our people in the stores selling some items ??????????????
