Hi everyone, I came to know from some of my friends that we can get tax return on tutions we have paid in our schools. they told me they have got it back last year. Is that true? Anyone got the tax cut for the tutions under F1 students. I am wondering may be rule has changed otherwise I dont think we can get tax back for our paid fees. And also anyone knows how to get maximum tax back on the earnings? I have been working under H1B since October 2008 and have worked a bit in 2008 under F1 too. Thanks

Hey JackS.. How did you get it? I have paid more than 25000 for my tutions since 2006 August and I never got anything back. Could you tell me how should I file so that I can get it back? FYI, I am in H1b since October 2008 and now working. Not only me I am sure most of the students dont know this coz it says in irs.gov that students under F1 visa wont get tax return for their tutions paid. THanks

You can get maximum of $4000 tuition deducted from your income no matter how much you paid. FYI, Internationals are not allowed to do this. But most do. Actually, the tuition paid is not the Income earned here. That money is what we brought from our country. That is what IRS thinks .
