Koirala makes case against Maoists

BY DINESH WAGLE
NEW DELHI, March 13 - In a series of meetings with top Indian leaders in here on Thursday, former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala made a case against the growing "Maoist dictatorship" back home. But the octogenarian leader didn't seek the Indian help to unseat the Maoist-led government, sources close to Koirala said.

Koirala separately met Bharatiya Janata Party's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and BJP president Rajnath Singh. Koirala had a breakfast meeting with Advani at latter's residence, according to Sujata Koirala, daughter of the former prime minister and chief of NC's foreign affairs department. In the afternoon, Koirala met Mukherjee at latter's office at the South Block. Confirming the meeting, the spokesperson at the Ministry, Vishnu Prakash, told the Post that both leaders "discussed issues of mutual interests."

"Mr. Koirala is here for a medical checkup," Prakash said. "He took the opportunity to pay a courtesy call to the minister. They have known each other for long time and they are old friends. They discussed issues of mutual interests." Asked to comment on the speculations in Nepal that Koirala is here to seek Indian support to bring down the Maoist-led government, he replied: "I can't comment on those speculations."

In the evening, BJP President Singh came to see Koirala at the Oberoi Hotel where the Nepali leader is staying. They held talks for about half an hour in Koirala's fourth floor suite. "We just talked about his health," said Singh emerging from the suite. Asked if the talks also featured about "Nepal's health," Singh replied, "We are very much concerned about what's happening in Nepal." Asked if his party was supporting Koirala's reported attempts to unseat the Maoist-led government, Singh repeated: "We talked about his health. We are concerned about what's happening in Nepal."

Sujata said that Koirala wasn't here to seek help to topple the government. "We have made it clear in Nepal itself," she said. "We don't want to unseat the government now. That topic didn't feature during the discussions with Indian leaders."

A source close to Koirala said that there will be no efforts from Nepali Congress to bring down the Maoist-led government until a new government is formed in New Delhi. India will hold general elections in April.

Sujata said that Koirala was trying to meet with Prime Minister Manmonah Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi in the next few days.

Meanwhile Koirala will see doctors at All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Friday morning, his attending physician Dr. J P Agrawal said. Professor Dr. Randeep Guleria, an expert on lung diseases will see Koirala.

thukka thukka!  so you really show the true mentality and desire to wanting Nepal to become a  state of India.
I got one word for people like you and others who wants Nepal to become state of India or part of it.
SUX it!

You people should leave Nepal and go back to India all you can.
That's where you came from initially if we go back to prehistoric times of Nepal.
The Janajatis of Nepal will never allow our motherland Nepal to become part of India. GOT it!

what do others have to say......??

SKH

No Nepali wants Nepal to be a state of India.
But what he is saying is not absolutely very far from truth.

If things goes on like this, we will not even know, when we became part of india.
nepali lai pani thahai nadiyee nepal lai india lanechha indian harule..

Its time ..we should think something.... to stop all this..

Nepal will not be legally a state of india for sure, but unoffcially, it is very close to being a state.
This is what this news suggests.

If we are proud to be nepali, shut down the borders with india today..now ..and stop requesting permission from India to make any nationwide decision in Nepal.

To all so called ministers of Nepal :
!!! STOP BEGGING PERMISSION TO MAKE ANY NATIONWIDE DECISION !!!

Kush I agree. But what happens when we "shut down the borders today now." I hope you know what the repercussions of this would amount to.

Nepali have learned to survive in high himalayas and mountains.
Sure we will survive without india .... and from there we will foster..

I am guessing some other countries may extend support ..though for their own benefits, but that would work for us for the time being.

And one thing ...if there is clear vision about rebuilding Nepal, I am sure many nepali abroad will go back to build.
We do have some patriots around ..

necessity is the mother of invention

we will discover new ways to keep up ..under pressure of survival.

country needs revoluntionary change ! right now we are going nowhere !!

I am not talking about grants. How will we import and export stuffs? Don't you think we need to manage that before cutting off the borders? Also isn't one of the reasons why 1990 revolution became successful that India blocked the borders to Nepal.
