It's normal in US. Easily you can get if you meet 6 point ID.

You can get one. The DMV form has an option of "not eligible for SSN".

Yes, a dependent on H1B can obtain a driving license. My friend who is H4 got her driving license recently.

Yes you can get a drivers license while on H4 visa. As usual they ask you for  SSN first .You explain them about your visa status,Then they ask you for passport and visa papers. They have some option that they use to issue the learners permit to those who does not have SSN but have valid H4 .

Bro,

This is how you get it done in New Jersey, dunno about the other states tho....

1.Firstly you will need a social security denial letter from SS office, piece of cake, drag yourself to the office, show them your passport and visa and they will print one out for you before you can say screw america.

2.Since you have a valid visa you need to qualify for your 6 point verification.Your visa counts as 4 points,if you have a alternate identification like a dependent health insurance card or a debit/credit card they count as 1 point each.In NJ they will just see one of  these,u don't even need to have both to get it up to 6 points.

3.You will need a proof of address in the state you want to get the license from.Get your monthly bank statement or a utility bill mailed to an address of anyone you know in the state.Make sure it's not more than 2 month old.Just one mail showing your address is enough.

4.Most important piece of paper you could have, believe it or not is your Nepal driving license. If you have them you don't need to take the road test which is a blessing  coz the failure rate is high.Get your nepalese license translated from one of those certified DMV translators, their names the DMV will give you.Frankly they r just there for your 60 bucks,go to them show your nepalese license and they will give you a letter no sooner than they pocket your money.

Take all this and schedule a written test.Very easy.Need to get 40 out of 50 right.Go thru the DMV manual once you will pass the exam.If you do not have the nepalese license translation they will ask you to schedule a road test.make sure you have them.

If you do this you will get a license in no time.

NOTE OF WARNING: Do not forget to take the person you r dependent to to the DMV.It checks the person's H1B,SS number and his/her relation to you.If you go alone you can't do nothing.

best of luck and drive safely.Going to driving school certainly helps even if you do not give your road test.
