Write a letter to them explaining your situation. It should work.

Admirer,

It depends. The letter may work and may not. If you take IELTS that will confirm your

full point otherwise they may give you less point and finally, if your point is less

than 67 than they may reject your application. Be sure by keeping 2nd highest point in English, your total score

will be 67 or not?

Although, it may sound stupid to you and me for having to provide an evidence of proficeiency in English Language, even after- as you mentioned, studying in the US for several years, it is a general criteria for an official procedure in a written format. Therefore, to fulfil this firstly, I suggest you write a strong letter that can prove your proficiency in English. But remeber you will have to prove your command in all areas like writing, speaking, comprehension etc. If you have any sort of prublications in the media that have been published in English, you can attach them and that will add weight to your letter and serve your purpose. Also any recommendations form your college and professors will be positive.

Secondly, if the Immigration officials are not satisfied from your submission (proof of english) over your command of English language, they will send you a written notification explaining that your english proficiency is not up to thier standards of evaluation for the application process. They will then, clearly give you a choice whether to calculate your points from whatever proof you have submitted for english language or to appear for IELTS and submit the result. They will give you 3-4 months of time frame to submit the IELTS results if you wish to give one.

Hope that helps.

Hi Saathi,

Most (99%) of immigration officer ask for IELTS crap. My friend was only awarded 8 despite of being PHD student in Cornell University. In his case that was enough to make 67 points. I had BSEE and 2 year work experience from the states.  I completed my MS from Canada. In addition, I had 2 year of TA + RA experience. Despite of all of these, I was asked to take IELTS.

If you need 16 to make 67, I personally suggest you to take it. You should not have any problem getting 7 in each section. If they ask just take IELTS. Do not waste time to convince on you English proficiency.

Hopefully this will help.

Regarding the IELTS test i have heard that there are two kinds of test Academic and General and from PR we can take the General instead of Academic is that true? What's the difference between those two? Do some one know about it or has taken it. Please help with the question and if you do have please post some link for online preparation for IELTS exam.

Thank You.

Hi Freind,

I claimed 1 year work experience on TA/RA (2 Semester full time RA and 4 semesters TA).  I did 2 RA with 2 different prof in two summers. I counted that as a fulltime other TA job as part time. I claimed all of them as 1 year.  As a rule, 2 year part time can be 1 year full time (40hr/week).  I had 2 year experience in US as EE. It only increases my point by 1. It did not make that much difference in my case. I applied before they changed rules. I do not know much about new rule though.

Hopefully this will help
