KATHMANDU, March 13 - Finance Minister and senior leader of the Unified-CPN (Maoist) Dr. Baburam Bhattrai said on Friday that the 'plot' for baby king's ascension to the throne would not succeed.
Addressing a function of the Free Students' Union in Kirtipur, the Maoist leader reiterated that senior political leaders were off to India to meet former king Gyanendra and plan the 'baby king's' ascension.
"The grandfather king could not rule the country for long and the leaders' baby king mission would also fail," the minister said, adding there was no chance of monarchy's revival in the country. Bhattarai said the Nepali Congress might lose its identity because it is "at the forefront of a plan to revive kingship."
Dr. Bhattarai called on all stakeholders to remain united unless the constitution is drafted and state restructured under the leadership of his party.
Responding to students' questions, the finance minister urged leaders and stakeholders not to deepen the controversy pertaining to the army integration issue.
He also blamed political leaders for making uncalled-for comments on the issue. "We should sort out the controversy through talks, but the two armies -- Nepal Army and the Maoist People's Liberation Army -- must be integrated without delay."
The Maoist leader noted that the government had formed a special committee to resolve the deepening controversy and look for ways to kick-start the integration process.
