Hi,

i am trying to learn web designing. I have some basic computer skills. I know the learning curve might be bit long, but am very interested in it. I see that in ASP.NET .drag and drop can be done and then do coding behind the scenes. I have not tried PHP ..yet.Can anyone shed some light on this guys? What about the job market for either of these and the future for professionals ...which one is good to get into? I know the limitations of ASP..being a microsoft OS..supporting.and PHP supporting linux and others...Please enlighten me..

Thanks,

Dude, PHP is good one to start with. You will get very good knowledge if you started your scripting career with php and its easy to. Itwill provide you basic understanding of how web works and all those stuff..once to get into it, go for the ASP.NET coz..future is .NET thats for sure

I would also suggest you to go for php.

If you are really a beginner, I would suggest you to:
  • Download xampp (which will install apache, php etc and you don't need to worry about server set up etc)
  • Install an IDE (netbeans or eclipse). It may speed up your learning.
  • Refer php.net website as often as you can. You can find a lot of code which will make your life easier.
Wish you happy learning.

O Anil Pasa !! who said >net is the Future?

Cyrus Bro..Go with PHP//it will be easier for you to learn aand as AKAWi said php.net is the good website yo learn from..

From the Security perspective , based upon my exp, PHP has a better Architecture than ASP.net

This is my 2 cents.

First of all, you need understand the market you are in... are you in Nepal or USA or some other country and what language is popular in your area. You haven't mentioned where you are targeting for... Secondly, I wouldn't see much different in PHP or ASP.NET from just web prospective. But if you goto ASP.NET route then you have opportunity of whole .NET framework and then you can also to towards some core development with services or windows application or batch programs or graphics etc... PHP is mostly for web development.

If you are in USA then USA market is dominated by either .NET or Java... I haven't seen many big corporates using PHP... However, popular site like Facebook is written in PHP and MySQL.... so, PHP is big and powerful to handle anything... Good part of PHP is free but for ASP.NET you need to buy softwares from Microsoft....

Regarding security, I have been most of the big banks of USA are using either .NET or Java... I haven't seen any big Bank using PHP (I might be wrong).... so, seems like security is pretty good with ASP.NET... Recently, I have noticed Chase bank moved their online service to ASP.NET from Java....

So, it depends what you want to do with your career... So, what I would say is, if you just want to learn some web programming then go with PHP but if you are looking for career and job in future then either go with .NET or JAVA.... Again, learning PHP is not bad idea, in fact learning anything is not bad....

...bkshres

I did not understand - why are you comparing php with java ?? (except both are programming languages.. ).

if you excell in php, you can secure your future .. future is web technology and more people are getting to php and linux .. thats it. MICROSOFT WILL BE PAST  thing SOON.
