Peer to peer technology is not illegal. For example, if you download a freeware from torrent then that is perfectly legal, whilst, if you download an artist's album then it is utterly illegal.

It's perfectly illegal.

But all use it. Only if they could catch you, then u r gone like that woman who was charged $1.6 million for downloading 20 songs($80,000 each ) couple of days back.

Things are kind of unclear here. If you download then you wont get into trouble, but if you download and then SEED it to other torrents, you will get slapped for that, because it infringes copyright violation by distributing the authors work!

And as it is, most of the torrent software, by default, seed whatever you download, because if no one seeded, we wudn't be able to download anything. so these lawmakers are going for the very pillars that support p2p, seeders.

bachera basnu man cha bhane, download gara, ani sakyo pachi tyo download lai cut and paste garera arkai folder ma hala (make sure that folder is not being scanned by your torrent software).

ALSO, i doubt if this concept of copyright extends wordwide :).

Various people are fighting against intellecual copyright. My take on it is..screw all that..if you wanna listen to a song, it should be free, because music defines life for a lot of ppl and the least thing we can get for free in this fked up world is that :) ! :D

I'd be interested in opening up torrents for nepali music if anyone wants to join me :) Send me an email at dekchidriver@gmail.com

In torrent, one have to upload when downloading things. Now the question is, if it is ok to upload until you finish the download. Do they go after people who are uploading all the time after downloading?

I download linux distros as much as I like with torrent. It is infact fast and efficient than a HTTP/FTP download. However, I wouldnt download music just because its out there. Pandora suffices my need or VH1 Classic for that matter. So it is the content, not the content transport that gets you into legalities. And you DO get warnings for illegal downloads before you actually are charged with thousands of dollars. Remember you dont want to let it go so easy.

A different issue on torrent is your ISP throttling torrent traffic, but thats beyond the scope of this discussion.

The technology of bittorrent is of course legal. However, using that to download movies and music is "illegal" in many places including the US (especially if you upload that stuff (seeding)).
