My mother ( on B1/B2) and brother (on F1) are coming to the US in August. They have selected two routes. First: by Air India/Indian Airlines via Delhi and Second: by Thai/AA. Delhi route is convenient but my brother is afraid of Delhi route because he has heard in Nepal about authority in Delhi harrassing by asking/saying too many things like your visa is fake etc. Please tell me your experience. Give me suggestions. Also, does my mom have to check in her luggage in Delhi again while going back to Nepal? In addition, she will alone while going back and doesn't know english at all. Therefore, she is taking wheel chair assistance while going back.

Also, in BKK, there is only 55 minutes of time to change planes. Is it enough?

Thank you all in advance.

second option sounds better....no long wait hours in transit...and 55 minutes is enough time if they know a little about travelling...

Yeah, in my opinion also via BKK is better. 55 minutes transit time is more than enough in Bangkok as you don't need to change terminals there. Just make sure that they don't spend lot of time in duty free shops.BON VOYAGE TO THEM !

If you have a direct ticket from KTM to USA, no question of checking your bags again at Delhi airport. If you have  genuine papers do not worry.Thousands Indian come to USA in a day... and Indains are changing. Those indian officials even do not know what a advance Parole is. Everybody there seemed to me new... a complete overhaul in the system to corrupt one. and the guy who came forward to explain was very nice. On last August, I entered Delhi airport twice.... exited twice..... never had any hassel. Hudreds of people in queue and watching the guys checking the papers, no place and time to demand bribe .

transit time 45 minutes...not enough. First time traveller could be in trouble.

talkin about delhi airport, appears that people working there have dropped their attitudes of harassing a nepali or anyone else whom they can. a reason for this is because delhi airport is going under huge huge construction changes to make it a real international airport..not like the one we saw 2 or more years ago.

and quite honestly, i have been treated quite well in delhi...people are friendly and answer your questions, show the right way and even take you there if you are really confused. the key is that you too have to drop the idea that 'bheles are waaiyaat and low-life creatures'. talk nice, be polite, show them respect..just like you do when in kuireko airport.

on my way to germany last month, i had a nice chat with the indian guy in customs/immigration...he finished stamping my pp, but we just talked for about 10 mins or so...nice people there. i'm returning home the same route.

I have a pleasant experience flying through India, way better than any other routes I had been flying. The only thing you have to do in India is identify your baggage and they will transport it.

Thank you all.

I have one more query. My mom is returning alone. In Delhi, there is 10:40 hrs of transit. So, does she have to recheck in luggage from DEL to KTM. Does she have to pay any custom charges at DEL airport if she has any electronic items?

A travel agent told us we may have to pay custom at Delhi and recheck in luggage. Is it right? By the way, she will have AA/Air India/Indian Airline from US to KTM.

while she might need to recheck the luggage, she should not be charged for customs. i've never heard of anyone being charged for import taxes on transit. besides, the goods are not for use in india (not being imported to india). if they charge customs for goods, then they're trying to loot you. what items btw? one laptop, one camera, one dig cam, one mp3 player, one phone, etc personal to the traveler is usually never taxed, even on the country of import.

for the long transit, give her 20-40$ and tell her to get the business lounge for overnight sleep. i think it costs 20-25$.

Thanks. She might take back 1 or 2 cameras and a laptop. That's it.
