hello sajha friends. I wonder if we can change anything in nepal from here in US. Can we pressure our leaders about changing the capital in nepal. I am from kathmandu, i like kathmandu as a capital because we have more comfort and security compare to other part of country . But i think it is better to change capital for the sake of the whole country. It will change millions of people life. Kathmandu is already a city, why dont we make a new capital where we make a planned developed city like in other countries. Make it a 10 year programme.  Maybe place like chitwan or hetauda. Madhav nepal has a email for public responses. Can we as a big group of people from america give a big pressure on him. At least to do something. It will be a change we can bring. Even organizations like ANA and other organizations in america putting a main theme like this for upcoming events and trying to put pressure in nepal. Lets try to do it. lets not talk. lets get together. lets do it. somebody has better idea, put your idea up front and let us try to implement it.

Still_Snake:

I like the theme of developing our nation. But i don't understand why everyone is just sticking to politics ? its the Geo-politics that comes into play and all, and it take a life time for that. How about contributing our skills individually when we have a chance. Like: go to villages and distribute medical supplies, stationery supplies, even yet help villagers build schools, repair old computers and set them up for village school kids.

I personally think that we can get good results in a anticipated time frame like a decade. That is how i am planning to do things. Whereas if jumped into politics and all, there are way too many unworthy, undignified, shameless people to deal with which i don't think is worth wasting our precious time.

I don't think the solution to our nation's problem is hefty
construction of Presidential palaces and ministerial suites. Our country needs
a grassroots change movement simultaneous to a change in the private sector.

The prime necessity to draw in investments, local or foreign, is security. With
a two-fold security system currently in place--where the police and the army
are very weak because of the Maoists and other political factions still at
large--our country's security situation is very hard to solve. From abroad, I
don't think we can contribute much to this besides request for international
pressure. The Association of Nepalese in America and other NRN organizations
would have to figure out how to muster up support from foreign governments in
order to boost up the security. I am most pessimistic about this aspect.

From a local level, however, there can be a great change that can be delivered
in Nepal. This grassroots movement starts with our villages. In Bangladesh, the Grameen Bank initiative
has empowered thousands of women leading to economic success in smaller
communities that transcends upon larger communities, and then eventually the
world.

I can think of a similar project that empowers local communities. The Dollar-a-Month campaign
by Mahabir Pun comes to mind. Mahabir Pun went back to Nepal from University of
Nebraska Kearney and started an experiment in the rural parts of mountainous
Nepal. This wireless project has now expanded to serve over 20,000 people in
seven villages. Local communities can communicate between each other, deliver
goods and services through the internet, and eliminate the travel for a lot of
things. This includes services like telemedicine, teleteaching, and the
villagers can also readily access to news and information.

Changes like this--on a smaller level--is what an individual can do for the
country. If you really want to help many people right away, I think this
program serves as an excellent start. Don't target fixing Nepal's highway
system or curbing corruption right away. One step at a time.

I have stopped relying in government and other sources. So many children in Nepal r now forced to live on road sides, these kids can be a threat later. So my frens and i are discussing that if a single Nepali staying abroad could sponser at least 2 children, it would make a difference to thousands of nepali children. It doesnt cost much .We analyzed that $5/month is enough to pay for schooling and stationary in simple school in Nepal. So folks lets all try to do what we could do to our nation, open your hearts to nepali brothers and sisters.

i like what doctorbee has said over here "our coutry need grassroot change....." . I think that is very true in almost all of the scenario,  but who can we trust for such a responisible work especially in a country like nepal. we always hear that most of the outsource fund are scuked on by some greedy stupid educated people before it gets to the needy people. We have seen our politicians. they want their daughter and son in the big  post because they think we dont have any good qulified people in our country. they think people who are in politics are more better off than any young educated dynamic people who has different opinion about the world. So i dont know how we can trust somebody for any fund raising. Its not about the option we have like which party we will choose. Anyway every party seems to be same. shameless, always smiling, i dont know how can they smile, when they rip off there own people of their own country.we are citizen of that country where our daughters and sisters are being sold for money in our neighbouring countries. one can imagine how sucessfull our goverment is working right now. Raising money will benifit some certain number of people in position only, people who can manipulate with thier words and their slick scheme. You want to do something than you need to think about this carefully. you cannot deny that people have raised money before like we are trying to do now. I am not pessimist about this but lets not bring the topic of raising money when you dont know who will benifit from that. Somewhere someplace logic doesnot work, you have to be practical. Our country does not need logic but it  need some practical implimentation. Lets change the capital. lets start from here. lets see where we will go. everybody say yes and we will reach there. I am not just talking about making new highways and buildings, i am talking about more jobs, less competition for people coming from different parts of the country and less expensive especially for basic needs like land and house. This way People have more option.

Good discussion.
Bottom line - Bypass the Govt and reach to the grass root.

There have been lots of discussions like this and ended up just in talk.

Prove me that you guys are not mere words but have substance.
