Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal is leaving for USA to participate in
the 64th general assembly of the United Nations on September 20.

PM
Nepal is leading the Nepali delegation which includes foreign minister
Sujata Koirala, chief secretary Madhav Ghimire, foreign secretaries
Gyan Chandra Acharya and Madan Kumar Bhattarai, under secretary at the
foreign ministry Rudra Nepal, PM's foreign affairs advisor Rajan
Bhattarai, and FM Koirala's advisor Chiranjivi Nepal.

PM Nepal's
spouse Gayatri Nepal is also accompanying him in his US trip. With some
additional members the size of the delegation could reach up to 30,
according to foreign ministry sources.

The three-month long UN
general assembly is beginning on September 15. Head of states and
governments of member nations will address the assembly from September
23.

PM Nepal will also meet US President Barack Obama during his
visit. Nepal will apprise the US President of the progress in Nepal's
peace process during the meeting.

Some ministers and parliamentarians will also go to participate in the general assembly after PM Nepal returns.

Foreign
affairs experts have suggested the Prime Minister's office to reduce
the size delegation to cut down cost as Nepal is not taking any
specific agenda for this general assembly.

Foreign ministry sources say, more than Rs 20 million will be spent for the PM's trip if a 30-member delegation is taken.

So.......What exactly do you want to prove here. Please clarify your point. Should they or should they not make the trip?

damn 20 mil for the trip! he gonna make it rain in the strip clubs? :D

tax money?

or is this a family vacation? :D

20 mil is 200 lakh. rite?

for
200 lakh of peoples tax money, we could get a better highway out of
kathmandu eh? and not have to depend on good ol trusty krishnabhir
doing its thing every monsoon. 200 lakh investment that will no doubt
increase overall monetary transactions of businesses within and outside
of the valley, giving workers job and putting food on the table for hmm
a BUNCH of people.

And as long as there's food on the table, its one less problem to deal with right? :D

But
what's he doing sightseeing in the US, when he has more urgent matters
at hand? Will someone slap him with a big rotten trout?

Seriously,
whats with including spouse Gayatri to the trip? She gonna show the
committee members how to make good alu dum? This is the tax money of
the Nepalese people, I'd like to say part of mine as well, but... i
dont pay taxes to the Nepalese govt.

And the 30 delegates?
Bhanja, bhanji, didi bahini, daju bhai? Isnt the General Assembly of
the UN usually attended by the Ambassadors (rajdoots)? Most of the
other countries send their ambassadors, but what could be so vital as
to warrant the whole family to go in front of the assembly?

It is not going to be from their pocket and never know when they will be out of post.

What can be done in short period , the are exactly doing it accordingly. Trying to make it happy to every one and keep the offfice time longer.

But, it should be done economically, should not take more deligates than needed. But it is the story about making all possilble in short period. Who cares about NATION, rather than post and power.

@DD your view is still not clear. I am pretty sure that you don't have their itinerary and obviously if Gyatri Jee is preparing alu-dam, she is trying to save "Janta ko paisa"...well, have some respect, if not to the person, try respecting the post Madhav jee holds.

@Syanjali, at least you know, what needs to be done. You might be correct about the nepotism but does that mean we shouldn't participate in such a huge convention where India and China always fight to prove their point/power. We need to present our situation in such forums, and let the world know that we exist. Not just being a neighbor of India or China. And brother diplomacy comes with a price. Try to think positive, what if our premier brings in more than $20 m dollars of development project from US or EU. Common guys be positive.

PM will have one more point to talk in his weekly bhasan; success of government - met Obama besides his so called other success stories.

@unicorn : my view is this: I think that 200 lakh NRS could be spent for a more useful purpose than just a visit. I'm thinking in terms of food shelter and clothing. Basic needs. Nothing fancy :)

But yes, I apologize about my remark about PM's wife. It was unnecessary and short-sighted.
