Madtech, I traveled that route just a week ago and had a 14 hour long overnight transit. There is simply not much to do there except for a duty free shop, food court, and a "quiet room". If you happen to be thinking about having a few drinks, then forget about it. You are in an Islamic country. At least the airline is not dry, and you can buy liquor at the duty free shop.
Qatar Airways provides free accomodation for transits over eight hours. Contact your travel agent for this. In my case, the airline denied my travel agency's request for hotel as my reservation was not on the first scheduled flight out of Doha. The travel agent could not confirm me on the first available flight for the discounted fare I was paying but this argument did not satisfy the airline.
If you run into the same situation as I did, just wait until you land at Doha. As soon as you enter the terminal building, watch for the transit hotel desk and make your request. Without any question, I was provided a hotel room. The person attending my request was a Nepali gentleman. The hotel provided free buffet dinner and breakfast, and also had many folks from Chitwan working there. After dinner, I took a stroll around the neighborhood and could hear/see quite a few Nepalis. The driver on the way back to the airport was a Palpali. Anyways, I got the room, transportation, food, and a brief opportunity to walk around town for free and without being asked any question. Go for it. Good luck and bon voyage.
