ABOUT VINTUNA
A Nepali non-commercial movie directed by Aaryem Nakami who is a very well-known
and Versatile director in Nepali film industry and jointly produced by Nagina Joshi,
Sunita Rajbhandari and HAS Production for participating in the Nepal International
Indigenous Film Festival - 2008.
SYNOPSIS
Sirma was married to Lanithakun at early childhood, but Sintali, Sirma`s childhood pal
is still in love with Sirma.
The couple has been married for four years now but yet do not have a child, having
grown up in a traditional Newar family without any knowledge on sexuality. The more
interesting fact is that they yet have no idea how a child is born. Their neighbors and
elders of the society chaffer about sex and tease them, circuitously of course, but this
is a couple who yet do not understand.
Lanithakun`s parents are worried regarding this issue but the tragedy is that they too
believe that this is the wish of the divine and gratify upon it. While Lanithakun and
Sirma visit the home of Lanithakun`s parents for the feast of the “Janai Purnima” festival,
Lanithakun`s mother advises them to visit the temple of “Lord Ganesha”, offer a rooster
as a forfeit for blessing them with a child. This rooster is a dowry of Lanithakun`s
marriage. With their strong faith, this couple does so.
On the same evening, while they eat their “Sie Ka Vu” Feast, each of them desires to
eat the head of the rooster themselves and finally end up arguing and Lanithakun
leaves for her parent's home.
One day while watching “Dabu Pyakhan” (local stage drama), Sirma feels the need of
his wife and Lanithakun too misses Sirma. Sequentially, Sintali finds this out and puts
the broken hearts together and proves her true love for Sirma. Along with that Sintali
aptly tells Lanithakun how a woman can get pregnant.
