I have read a lot of posting about buddha campaign and after careful consideration I have arrived at this conclusion about the buddha.

1. The person under discussion was born as Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini, Nepal
2. He gained the knowledge or the Bodhisatva in Gaya, India

Buddha is a state of being and Siddhartha achieved that state of being in India so essentially the Buddha was indeed born in India.

In the current situation Nepal can't survive without India and that is the truth. The only hope of Nepal to be independent of India is to be self sustained and we can't do that unless we develop our infrastructures as well as education. I understand we have to reserve to mainly three emblems: Mt. Everest, Buddha, and Gorkhali for a layman who doesn't know about our country however if we are after our own autonomy, in the most liberal sense, we can't do it unless we are self sustained. So folks lets not resort to violence that would be hypocritical. However, try to think tactfully.
Jai Nepal!!

Back when Buddha(Siddhartha) was born, Nepal was a state in the North of Bharatvarsha, there was no "India" only "Bharatvarsha" a huge chunk of land from the foothills of the himalays to the Eastern Iranian deserts and everything south of that, so technically Nepal was arguably not a country like it is today.

I love Nepal, but I don't agree that quarreling over Buddha's birthplace is prudent because 2500 years ago, things were different, whatever the case may be, Buddha wanted to teach non-violence and I do not think he would be happy if we resort to violence just to get a controversial point accross to a mass of people who really are not going to change their veiwpoints regardless.

If we are concerned about it so much, maybe we should do extensive research and find out the exact territory of what Nepal and the modern day "India" was 2500 years ago, honestly that looks impossible to to me and even if we make it possible somehow, what good would it do to the present state of Nepal? So let's just agree to disagree and stop breaking out heads over fruitless arguments.

Jai Nepal

According to History they say that he was born 2500 year ago that what we learn
In Nepal they teach he was born in Lumbini in Shakya Dynesty according to our text book
In India may be they tought that he was born in India somewhere
So rather than arguing about this point why not all follow the Budda principal and just leave in Harmony and stop hatretism for the people who falsify information
Intelligent people who have insight in Buddism have already found and proved he was born in Nepal.
So I don't think we need discussion to prove where he was born.Any I don't think this thread will be read by Indians or people
who wrote or claim his birth somewhere
Also there are enough people who believe Obama was not born in US but President but finally those remarks are just sacrist
Just a thought
my 2cents

Indians have been successful in giving all Nepalese a full time job of arguing where Buddha was born.
British gave Indians and Pakistanis a full time job to fight with each other when they left British India.

All you need is a little bit of common sense.

if buddha was living today, he would have killed himself out of disgust on seeing the indians n nepalese fighting over his birthplace and why r nepalese so concerned about his birthplace rather than philosophy ? the way ppl are getting killed and killing , it doesnot seem like buddha was born there ........

To the original comment by GRG dai, I respect you Grgdai but I disagree...

"I have read a lot of posting about buddha campaign and after careful consideration I have arrived at this conclusion about the buddha.

1. The person under discussion was born as Siddhartha Gautam in Lumbini, Nepal
2. He gained the knowledge or the Bodhisatva in
Gaya, India

Buddha is a state of being and Siddhartha achieved that state of being in India so essentially the Buddha was indeed born in India.

Buddha AKA Sidhartha Gautam Was born in Nepal, No doubt.........
Now Most of us Nepalese here in the US were Born in Nepal...No doubt too, Most of us here Became doctors, Nurse, engineers, bankers, soldiers, computer software designers, teachers, students, workers like cashiers, waiters, sales rep, etc etc... Most of Us also acquired our knowledge in these various fields HERE in the USA......so even though we were born in Nepal .....and we got our work and title of Dr, nurse, soldier, mechanic, waiter, teacher, professor etc here Does that change the fact where we were born??? I dont think so...NO matter where Siddhartha Gautam got his title of Buddha, The physical fact where He was born will always remain in Nepal. Buddha is the Name the world recognize and even though his knowledge was gained in India...He came out of his mothers womb in Nepal.......I think thats what the real debate is not where he gained his knowledge BUT where he was BORN.

Was there a Nation called Nepal or India when Buddha was born? I think it is safe to say that Siddhartha Gautam was born in Lumbini, not even sure if that was what it was called back when he was born, which is now a part of Nepal. Buddha is neither Nepali nor Indian.

ok, go back and re-read the comment, there is no denying that we all agree he was born in Lumbini (which is now in Nepal), but does that give us the right to say that he was born in Nepal when the fact is there was no known nation of Nepal at that time per my understanding? i disagree on that account. rest is up to your understanding.

Hypothetical example: If Nepal becomes a part of India or China tomorrow, will your children/grandchildren say that their grandfather is Indian or Chinese? if they do then that would be wrong.
