Boston-Chhalphal Where words matter! Topic: Maoist Combatants & Nepal Army Integration Speaker: General Rookmangud Katawal Date: June 17, 2010 (Thursday) Time: 7-9 PM Location: Harvard University, Chemistry and Chemical Biology Department Building, Room: M217 (12 Oxford street, Cambridge, MA) Please call Uddhav Shigdel at 773-957-5710 if you cannot get in. Synopsis: General Katawal believes strongly that the integration of Maoist combatants into the National Army will not serve the cause of peace, democracy or stability in Nepal. General Katawal’s stand against the integration of Maoist combatants into the National Army prompted the then Maoist Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to fire him from office, only to be overruled by the President, who reinstated him back to the position of COAS. General Katawal continues to remain visible and vocal about the need to preserve the National Army as a purely professional, non-partisan institution. Come and learn more about General Katawal’s perspective presented in person.
About the speaker:General Katawal served as the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Nepalese Army from September 2006 to late 2009, a period in which Nepal transformed from a monarchy to a republic. He is a graduate of the Indian National Defense Academy and the Indian Military Academy, the Army Command and Staff College of UK, the Senior Command Course (India), and the National Defense University (Pakistan). Additionally, he earned the coveted Gideon in the U.S. Ranger Course and graduated as the Distinguished International Honor Graduate of the U.S. Special Forces Course. General Katawal holds a BA degree from Nepal's Tribhuwan University and an MA Degree in National Defence from Pakistan's Quaid-i-Azam University.

Unfortunately I cannot be there, but can anyone of you guys ask him these two questions? 1) Royal Massacre: Ask him how it was possible to wipe out the entire royal family, when there were about 5000 armies stationed inside the palace. I wonder if he has anything to do in it. 2) Maoist's attack in Dang army barrack: Ask him if it it true that some of the personnel from nepal army has secretly informed the maoists about army schedule that night. And how much of maoism has infiltrated into nepalese army.

Didn't you hear what happened? Dipendra is supposed to have shot everyone so it happened inside a secure zone. Army could have done something if it was an outside attack.

One of the high level official, a TRAITOR in Nepal Army is a current Constituent Assembly member from Maoists' side. There were perhaps many unknown ones. Another TRAITOR is Katuwal's enemy Khadka, who almost traded an entire Nepal Army to maoists to get a post of the general.

Grgdai, You can't say it was Dipendra (well it was a face of dipendra but..) or otherwise. However, it apparently seems that they have a chain of command and certain regulations which restricted them of interfering. Somebody please ask this question for me: Was there a deal between Gyanendra and Pushpa Kamal? Yes or No. No bhumika. Was Nepal army in full operation during that period? What had has transpired between maoist and Royals by the time Gyanendra gave the throne?
