On your way down the 101 take route 1 (coastal highway) from Leggett. It merges back into 101 at around golden gate. Take route 1 again after Golden gate and take the "great highway" through golden gate national recreation area. It mergers back to highway 1. Go all the way down to Monterey and enjoy the 17 mile drive (will take half a day to enjoy 17 miles in full). Start back on highway 1 and drive all the way down to Morrow bay. I don't think you will have any more time to go any further, so go the 101 that runs parallel (around 20 miles east) and return back using 101 (faster but lots of cops-don't break speed limit). If you are in a rush take US 5 (it will be pretty crowded).

That is a very scenic drive along the coastal lines (such as Big Sur, Marin County Coast). To me - such drives are fun either alone or with the S.O.
I have a suggestion. Please do take some snickers, in case you turn into a DIVA or any of your friends do.
