Hello folks:

I just graduated from school and started work on
OPT. My company wants to file for H1b. I tried to talk to the company
attorney but he is kind of a jackass and I get a feeling he doesn't know
what he is talking about (if he was talking at all).

So,
basically I needed advice on if I should switch to h1b. I am eligible
for STEM extension too if that helps answering my question.

I
did some research online and found that on H1b I have to pay SS tax and
medicare stuffs. I don't want to pay additional taxes. I was wondering
if there are any benefits of being in h1b. If I plan to get GC in
future, will I be able to make the transition sooner if I am on H1b now?

Thanks in advance! Any information is appreciated.

how long have you been working there, can you use that experience ? can you land another job in the same industry in few days if you decide to move on?do you see other people who have made green card from that company? you don't have to answer these questions just consider.btw, what's your major?

It would help me think about it if I write it here.

I have been working with the company for like 1 month or so and I really love it here. Everyone is nice and the work environment is relaxed and laid back, which I prefer. But, then again it has been just a month. Though I would like to stay with the company for 1-2 years if you ask me now, I don't know if it will stay so after maybe 6 months.

I can definitely find a job at another company if I want because I had choices when I decided to join the current company. But I don't know about doing it in few days. The hiring process normally takes a month or so and I'd say that I would need at least that much time to find something new. How long do you have to find a new job in h1b if you get fired?

I have not known of anyone who has gone through the GC process. It's just because it is not something I want to ask anyone. This company is just like 10 years old and is not that large. So, there aren't many international folks but the HR person said that they will apply for GC when time comes.

I;d love to know what you'd do in this situation.

I majored in ECE but am more of a guy with CS focus.

Thanks
